My 85 gt convertible has a “special” door belt molding just below the outer weatherstripping. It’s all bent up (my fault) and I need to remove it and straighten to reinstall. How does this molding actually come off without further damage? It doesn’t slid back or forward to pop off like newer door belt molding. Thanks!

Sorry, I should have posted pics sooner. The first picture shows the clips and how the trim is held on. The other pictures show the trim and what it should look like.

Closest you’ll get is these

https://lmr.com/item/LRS-20934BPRK/88-93-mustang-convertible-outer-door-belt-molding-kit

https://lmr.com/item/LRS-20544PR/1979-86-Mustang-Outer-Door-Belt-Weatherstrip-Pair-Black-Trim

Not 100% sure you need both of these as my car is a hatch so I’m unfamiliar with door moldings on verts.

My ‘88 has the early style square units. No idea if they are similar to the 1986 retainers. I removed the square ones and riveted the round ones in place and installed.

I know they are not reproduced, I have looked and looked online for that already. How are they removed though? They do not slide back to pop off as they have no spaces for the square pieces.

You probably need to remove the door panel and see if you can get a look at them from the back side. They look like push in clip type. They have probably hardened over time.

I've never seen a molding like that on a fox. The clip looks familiar but I can't remember what it was on.

You do have a few options to resecure them. You can use layers of 3m tape or universal screw stud type that use a nut on the back side. I'd rather go the 3m tape route after straightening it back out.

My next step was to take the door panel off, but just figured I’d ask here first. Thanks, I’ll consider some options for reattaching.
