'00 stang needs help

I have an '00 stang v6 and there is some type of electrical problem. The battery and the Alternator check out fine and the stock radio is still in the car. The problem is that when you turn on the lights, with the radio on playing a cd, the dash goes wacky and the radio keeps switching back and forth between radio and cd. That is just an example. I need to know how to read the obd codes with out a code reader. I'm pretty sure there is a way using the check engine light. Any ideas anybody?

you can check some trouble codes along w/ other things using the test feature built into your dash. it tells you how here http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/dtcodes.htm and they also give you descriptions of the different trouble codes near the bottom. i doubt this is capable of listing every trouble code but i hope it helps.
