so for a daily 3.73s are better because ive heard that 4.10s work with the auto a lot better because of it being such a wide gear and that its only like 1mpg more than 3.73s

it can be a safer choice for unforseen mods later on. some people don't like switching tires at the track with 4.10s when they put on a blower, and 4.10s are just a smoke show with a positive displacement blower also. many also initially like 4.10s and then dislike once they have owned the car for a little while due to the higher rpms. however, the auto is a little more sluggish down low then a 5-speed and teh 4.10s can be very helpful in that area, especially with a stock converter. then later on, if you get a high stall converter, you mate how fast you blow through first with the 4.10's.
I hope you see a trend here. There are tons of pro's and con's and this arguement can continue. That is why 3.73's are so highly recommended since they are good with just about anything. It is hard to predict the mods you will do to your car in a year or two making it a hard decision.
Try to define your goals very strictly and go from there.

right thats very understandable, i think i might go with 3.73s then..... its going to be my daily, about to get a 02 gt motor *reman* and just going to have headers and x-pipe plus the company does boring so prolly .20 or .30 and thats it for a WHILE. but i am going to take my 96 block out and build it on the side..... kinda depends so i think 3.73s would be a safer route like you said unforseen mods later might not work with the 4.10s where as the 3.73s work with almost everything. thanks :nice:

k, i have an 01 GT auto and already have a set of FRPP 4.10s, and really didnt research on em too well before i bought em, but after seeing the vids on this site, i didnt like how the RPMs were very high on regular acceleration...so my question is would i feel a noticable difference from stock gears to 3.73s?...i havent been in a car with gears besides my friends 98 GT 5-speed with 3.73s and it pulled...i dont race, maybe ill make a trip to the track once in a full moon...what im looking for is some passing power/acceleration,you know?...so would my car respond with some 3.73s..i have a buyer for my 4.10s so i really wouldnt be losing money...any feedback is appreciated...Roy

If you plan on staying NA keep the 4.10's.

If you plan on supercharging/spraying in the future, go with the 3.73's.

But seeing as you don't plan on going to the track that often, you're probably going to stay NA. And if you don't like the high gearing, then just go with the 373's. your choice...

4.10's

Perfect for a DD

i agree, but i still love my 4.30s. They arent as radical as everyone would assume.

i dont hit the highway much and when i do i kinda coast it around 65mph, maybe 70.

but i really love the "get up and go" that the 4.30s give me at any speed.

Oh yes, 4.30's would have been fine in my case as well. If going to the trouble of changing gears, I wouldn't go any less than 4.10's for a DD. Right now I have to be running 90 mph in fifth gear to hit 3,000 rpm.....plenty of room left.
