01 GT trans problem HELP!!!!!!

I am confused as to what the problem is with my transmission. i was just goint to swap out the converter or drop a stick in it when i had the money but the problem has gotten alot worse today.

The problem is that when i hit 45 mph when i'm accelerating slowly, i hear a loud clunk from the tranny and the whole car shudders. this makes me very nervous about the state of my transmission. Today i got on the gas (about 3/4 throttle) to pass a car and it did the shudder/clunk/bounce thing 3 times in about 2 seconds. this has been happening for awile now and i think it is time to take it in to the dealer. It is under warrenty(i think) so i'll probably take it.

Any clue what the problem could be? also when i had it in a transmission shop before it would not act up for the guy and i couldnt get it to do it for him.

HELP!!!!!! I need ideas.

Hate to tell you but its normal.

I thought I had a problem also, and took it to a friend (also a Ford Mechanic who specializes in the trannys) who drove it, experienced the "problem" and said its normal. You get this "problem" when you are around 45 mph (give or take a few mph) right. It seems as if the car cannot make up its mind if it wants to go to 4th or 3rd? Or it will bounce around between the 2 gears, with the converter locking up and releasing (the clunk you feel) depending on your acceleration or lack of? Only fix for it is to get a chip or programmer to change shift points and times. I drive my car with the OD OFF until I get above 50Mph. BTW my Expedition with the 4R100 does the same thing, and my friend’s truck with the 4R70W does it also. It seems to be a Ford program thing for the tranny in our computers. Probably a design to get the best gas mileage at certain shift points under normal acceleration.

You can change the tranny fluid, and if you have not done so you should by now, but its not TC shudder, so I really doubt its the fluid.
