So about 2 months ago my friend and I were helping a guy drop his IRS to beef it up. He got new bolts and bushings for the entire IRS so when we dropped the suspension down we were just looking at it and realized something kinda scary. Though I'm not 100% sure on these sizes, I do know that both sides had valleys through the bushings for a 15mm bolt lets say, and the bolts Ford used from the factory were only 12 or 13mm, there was WAYYYYY too much play for it to even be close to the right size. Anyone else ever heard of faulty bolts being used or what?

I suppose I could put some pics up too :P The car should be pretty badass when it's finished...New Whipple blower w/ higher boost I believe, coolant ports and cooling system cleaned up to help prevent PTW seizing @ high rpms, and I don't know what else he has done to it now or plans to do but I think he might be putting nitrous in too. I think he's shooting for 550ish power-wise...

yes, they should actually be 14mm bolts. the factory 12mm bolts will allow for a "Clunk" either noise or feel under accel and decel. i think the 03/04 cobra faq (link of which escapes me right now, i think Uncle Meat knows it by heard) has an article about how and were to find the correct bolts to fix this issue.

btw lucky man, i miss my cobra everyday when i hit the throttle to get on the freeway in the GT and remember if i had the cobra id have been at 110mph at the same spot the gt reaches 60.

That is a known problem, Ford messed up and used the wrong size bolts on the assembly line. Maximum Motorsports sells the correct bolts and nuts, I think it is around $40 for all the new hardware you need to correct the situation. I hope your friend installed an IRS brace while he had the IRS out. Nice pics :nice:

My car looked just like that a few weeks ago. Put the 14mm hex head bolts in with my IRS plus steeda subframe bushings. I have a killer clunk from the crappy diff bushings so I'm gonna need to spend another 50 bucks for those.

And yes the IRS brace is a must, he better have it with a whipple. I do with just a Vortech GT.
