I bought an 03 cobra last summer and have been pleased. Lately though the transmission has been acting funny. In cold weather, when I first start the car the transmission does not want to shift into second gear and sometimes grinds. After a few minutes of driving it gets better and eventually starts shifting like new. I am guessing its not a synchro problem because it only does it cold. Is it an oil Problem and if so how to fix? What oil?

Do you happen to have an aftermarket shifter and if so have you checked to ensure the shift stops have not accidentally moved? I've seen this happen before. If that's not the problem it could be the clutch. Do you have an aftermarket quadrant and/or firewall adjuster? If you do, then you may need to adjust the firewall adjuster a little. If not, then have you manually adjusted the stock clutch cable by grabbing the clutch pedal and pulling it towards you?

You also could try replacing the tranny fluid. I run Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my T56 and it shifts like butter.

ok I did the manual clutch adjustment and it seems to have helped a little but it still feels a little rough going into second at times. Any more suggestions? I am about sure that it does have a triax shifter. Will adjusting the stops help?

Ok I have done some research on tremec's site. It says that if you have an aftermarket shifter, you should remove the stops since they have internal stops in the transmission. It also says that if the transmssion is hard to shift it may be a low fluid issue... I will replace the fluid tommorrow and see if this helps.

Yes, most aftermarket shifter instructions will state that for the T56 the shifter stops should be removed. Most people, including myself don't do this though. We just back them out, but not completely remove them.

Let us know how it works once the fluid is changed. Have you decided what type or brand of fluid you will use?

I bought my 03 cobra last week it had 18,000 miles on it and i drove it 2 days and i could not get the car in reverse without alot of force and then first and second became harder i put a new clutch and presure plate and now its fine.

Again it is starting to feel rough going into second. It just does it once in a while now. After the fluid change it felt ok for a while but it still is not right. I dont think its the clutch because every other gear is perfect. I am going to adust the shift stopd on the triax tommorrow and see if that helps. I am getting pretty fed up.

Go ahead and back the stops out as far as you can and see if that makes a difference. If not you may have to get a professional to look at it.

Tremec actually advises to take the shift stops out on aftermarket shifters used on the 3650 and T-56.....Mine shifts like dog poo when cold also. Once it gets warm it's better. I think the clutch has alot to do with it also. One thing that helped mine considerably was installing a Fiore micro-click firewall adjustor and quad. I am also running an MGW shifter, which is a nice piece.
