yes most of us have that sound. My 2004 GT does the exact same.
I think there was a thread about this about a week ago or so. Someone said its because of the front lower control arms. check that out

It may be the rack mount bolts and spacers. Remove each side and put some grease or better yet never seize on the spacers and bolts. My Son's '04 GT had a similar noise you describe and we traced it to that.

There's a TSB about this. It could be the rack bushings, but since it's an '04 and under a full warranty, why not take it to your Ford dealer and have it them address it (I know, I cringe at the thought of doing that myself).

The fix for this is installation of polyurethane bushings. Mine had the same problem with a a couple hundreds miles on it. The cure was like I said bushings! Good luck!

I have the noise too... its not half as bad as the bang I hear from time to time when I first start the car in the morning. sounds like the motor torques enough to make something big hit the frame somewhere on the passenger side.

build quality is not the greatest on these cars but who keeps them stock long enough to really care anyway??? lol

I hear a huge bang when I turn on the AC....like the compressor is slappin' something in there.

My '02 GT developed that noise. It would do it off and on and then got so it always did it. My '04 Mach doesn't have this problem yet. I hope it doesn't but I will take it back to the dealership if it does.

Fortunately I have not encountered any such noise after having my car for a year.

My driver side window makes noise when rolling up.. I need to take it in to be looked at.
