You may end up having more in the machining than it would cost to just buy the SN95 spindles out of a salvage yard. Typically you can get the spindle, hub, rotor, and caliper for $100 per side. Toss the rotor and buy new and use the calipers as your cores for rebuilt units. Hubs are typically good for 200K miles so those should be in good shape and it keep you from having to pull them off the spindles. Pads are cheap and you will need the caliper brake hoses and maybe an adapter on the passenger side. I would suggest a 1993 Cobra master cylinder.

Yeah you are probably talking $500+ dollars but the SN95 brakes are just superior to the woefully undersized Fox brakes.

I didn't realize, or think about, machining my current rotors being that expensive. That wouldn't be worth it and I agree with you, it would be better to put that money towards 94-95 spindles. I stopped by my local junkyard this weekend to see if they had any 94-95 cars but they were gone for the day. I'm going to check with them again.

I do think $500, give or take, is worth it to have upgraded brakes and be able to have a wider variety of wheels to choose from.

I don't like the idea of running spacers but my car had spacers on the rear until last week and I didn't have any problems in the year I drove it like this. I've bought vehicles that had spacers when I bought them and didn't have any issues, maybe I got lucky.

That is not a good reference for pricing for 94/95 spindles, it's an anomaly.
I think you should plan on $250 for a set.
Yes, there are deals somewhere on anything and everything, but you should at least plan on paying the market rate and be thrilled when you don't have to. Car-parts which i have used forever, has $call listed for 90% of them and some as high as $250 per side. in my area.

Typically what you are getting is the strut, spindle, job, rotor, and caliper for that price. I say typically. You can call the salvage yard and ask.

I will tell you that I ran 96-04 spindles with a stock k-member and a bumpsteer kit for years with zero issues.

Bumpsteer kit, 1979-93 Mustang, bolt-through style

For me the 96+ spindles were like $75 a pair and I knew I was going to an aftermarket k-member of which most are setup for that spindle. So spending the money on the bumpsteer kit now and the cheaper more abundant 96+ spindles made sense.

Also, if you get the 96+ spindles and they are selling you the strut, spindle, hub, rotor, and caliper get the 99+ V6 or GT as they have the dual piston caliper. Better than the 98 and down units but not as good as the Cobra.

Great minds must think alike I looked at car-parts.com last week and saw quite a few 94-95 spindles listed. I was going to check with my local yard this morning and if they didn't have a 94-95 car I was going to call the yards listed on car-parts.com that have them listed.

I had checked out car-parts.com and saw the 94-95 spindles were about $100 per side. I was planning on paying about $250 for a set with shipping. When I saw that he paid $70 for a set I thought maybe the prices at car-parts.com were on the high side. I'm glad they got a good deal at $70 for a set but I'm not going to plan on that price, I'm going to plan about $250 and like you said, if I get a set cheaper, great, if not, I'm not worried about it.

Hmmm, interesting that you ran 96-04 spindles for years with the bumpsteer kit. From the post below from Mustang5L5 I thought running the 96-04 spindles wasn't a good idea because even with a bumpsteer kit the steering geometry couldn't be corrected.

This car may or may not be a keeper for me but I will still probably just end up paying a bit more and getting the 94/95 spindles. Good to know that the 99-04 cars had the dual piston calipers.

Good tech article in here

1979-93 Mustang: Swapping to the 1994-04 Spindles

The reason for the change in the tie rod mount was because Ford lowered the rack approx 1" in 1996. By that i mean they lowered the positioning on the K-member relative to where it was on the 79-95 cars. As a result, Ford lowered the mount on the spindle as well.

You can't correct for the ensuing bumpsteer because in order to do so you need to move the tie rod end UP if you run 96+ spindles on a pre-96 car with stock factory K-member. The tie rod end and the spindle mount would...

It's going to highly depend on so many factors that my blanket statement really needs to be looked upon in a case-by-case basis. For instance, folks with higher caster angles would likely feel the bumpsteer less than folks with less-aggressive angle due to caster causing the front tie rod mounting boss to lift.

But really the issue is the tie-rod mount on the spindle. And these are from MM's website, not necessarily my words. When Ford introduced the 4.6L, then dropped the steering rack down 1" from where it sits on the fox and 94-95 cars. To compensate, they dropped the tie rod mounts on the spindles down as well.

So when you put 96+ spindles on a pre-96 k-member, your tie rods are really sitting about 1" lower than where they should be ideally. They would actually need to occupy the same physical space.

How much of an issue this is all depends on the total suspension package. How low the car is. How much caster, what control arms are on the car, etc etc.

I knew I was going to a MM k-memnber so I did not want to spend the money twice. I also installed CC plates at the same time which allowed me to put more caster in the car. My bumpsteer "alignment" was to put the tie rods parallel with the lower control arms and it worked really well on the street.

I did read the same thing you posted from MM about the steering rack being lowered with the 4.6.

I lowered my car with the SVE springs so maybe bump steer wouldn't be too bad with 96-04 spindles BUT it sounds like using the 94-95 spindles with a stock Fox K member is the correct way to do it. If I'm going to go through the trouble of changing the spindles out I plan on using the 94-95 spindles since I don't plan on switching to an aftermarket K member like AeroCoupe.

Seems like you got a great deal. I have been calling around and the 94-95 spindles are getting hard to find. A couple places have told me crazy pricing of $250 per side!

Ebay pricing is in the $400-600 range for 94-95 spindles depending on level of refurbishment and if new hubs are provided.

Ebay pricing is the highest...... Guess I got lucky with my find.... Yes, they are getting harder to find and more expensive, which is why I jumped on the last set I found for a spare set....
