O.K. my buddy who owns a 2004 SRT-4 is blabbering on-and-on about how his '04 SRT-4 will smoke my '05 GT when I take delivery. He doesn't have any other mods that an intake and stage 1 from Mopar- bumps him to about 250hp or so- does his argument hold any water-???

It's gonna be close, but you'll win

Sadly he may have a point. April 2004 Car & Driver clocks a stock SRT-4 at 13.9 @ 103 MPH. It also weighs 2984 lbs. December 2004 Car & Driver has the 05 Mustang down as 13.8 @ 102 MPH. Keep in mind that the Mustang weighs 3523 lbs- a full 539 lbs heavier. The Mustang obviously has the more powerful engine, but the SRT's light weight allows it to climb into the ring with the big V8.
I still think you'll beat him, the question is by how much....

Well, I don't think it would smoke it. It sounds like a drivers race to me with maybe a slight edge to Mustang (better torque). Whatever you do, settle it on the dragstrip and not on the street and not just for safety. It also keeps everyone honest since jumping the start causes a redlight.

I've driven an SRT-4 on a road course. ALL that he can brag about is how fast his car is in a straight line. Because other than straight-line ability, the car is a total P.O.S.. No matter how quick the little guy is, it's a Neon. Crappy interior, roll-happy handling, cheesy little toy-brakes that fade severely after one lap of hard driving, etc.etc... Think about it. A rusty piece of crap Pinto with a crate motor dropped in it would potentially "smoke" your stock GT. But what does that prove, the Pinto would still be junk, just fast junk. Him dogging you is kinda like an '05 Mustang GT owner bragging that he can "smoke" a Mercedes SL500. The Mercedes is so much more of a car, that the fact that a $25K Mustang can make it to the end of a 1/4 mile quicker is fairly irrelevent. I see the same disparity in SUBSTANCE between your '05 GT and you're buddy's econo-box with a turbo.

seeing how 04 Mustang GT vs SRT-4 is a drivers race, 05 GT's will have more of an edge. stage 1 isn't that big of a deal, it's faster but the 05 GT got a pretty good speed bump as well. just don't screw up driving, playing catch up won't be so easy

please no more stupid srt-4 talk, trolls come in and post a lot of dumb crap

Race him from a dig and you should get him! Those front drives have traction issues. And I second TomServo92 - Go to the dragstrip to settle this grudge!

i think you should be able to take him. I raced one in my 02 SVT focus and it was close. He took me off the line but by third gear i was gaining on him quick. His was all stock but so was my focus. He may have also have just been a bad driver but its hard to tell cause its the only one ive raced. But when the time come for the proof, smoke him.

Just have your girlfriend in the car with you. Have her tell him how shes thinking of getting almost the exact same car in pink. He should start crying and putting the barrel of the gun in his mouth. Then you win by default.

Hows about you race him yourself and then you'll have all the proof you need either way.

Well, even if he beats you he's still driving a Neon. You guys can compare resale value in a few years and sees who's still laughing.

I doubt he will "smoke" you but I can certainly believe he could easily beat you, if his car is properly setup. I owned an SRT4 for about 6 month and dicovered the car is plenty fast stock and can be easily made faster (all the way up to scary fast) with little money. A friend of mine here in Cary NC has a black srt4 with an aftermarket turbo and he is routinely running low 11's @ 125mph.

You will stand a better chance from a dig, from a 30mph roll its the SRT4 strong suit. In fact a modded SRT4 will give even a stock Cobra fits from about 30-80mph.

My SRT4 was a stage 1 car, but I had an aftermarket wastegate actuator that would hold boost @ 16PSI all the way to engine redline. The car ran 13.3 @ 106 on street tires on not so good launches (can anyone really launch a FWD?)

Bottom line if your friends SRT4 has wastegate control and he is a good driver, your likely to lose if your 05 is stock.

I actually drove both cars when I was looking for my new car. The little SRT-4 is a pretty quick little booger. However I loved the feel of the mustang much more. I felt like the mustang was more stable, gripped a little better and I like the interior better. The shaker system also sounds better than the srt-4 sound system. Overall I definately say the mustang beats out the SRT-4 but the mustang is a bit more expensive. Dollars well spent if you ask me

I would agree that the 05 GT is a MUCH nicer all around car compared to the SRT4. Looks, handling, build quality, etc.........

Just watch out for them in a straight line from a roll because they can hurt feelings (I know from experience)

Well the SRT 4 is just a neon with a decent motor and setup. The Mustang has a good motor but with good attributes such as interior and suspension etc. Sure Ford could have put all the money into the motor and it would be incredibly mean but that would take away from the other nice things now wouldnt it?

agreed with all of the above. if you race, insist on racing from a dig or through some twisties, you should have him easy.

Be serious about it. you can't play around with them. keep a sharp mind about it, you will win.
I don't know what my car can do on the track yet, but If I play around with them, I just play catch up. And then their gearing takes over, and they get more distant. 3-speed autos-teh loose.
If I am serious about it, they are consistant goners in the mirror.
Have fun and be safe.
