07 GT's now have less performance

I just purchased a brand new 07 Mustang GT. I love the car very much, but in reading some of the threads in here, I was extremly disapointed to see the 3.55 ratio for the manual transmission is now only available as an option. Not nowing that, the one I purchased aparently has the new standard 3.31 ratio.
(The 3.55 option is not listed on my window sticker)

My question: How much performance am I loosing with the 3.31 vs. the 3.55's?

How much is the cost aproximetly to change the ratio to 3.55 or 3.73 with parts and labor?

Thanks for any help suggestions you can offer.

well i have found that gears on livernoismotorsports website are pretty cheep and i would suggest getting nothing but Ford racing gears because well thats what everyone says. im looking into getting 4.10's done to my car and my ford dealer is quoting 325$ for install so thats just not happening. i am talking to a friend of a friend who is thinking more around 150$ for install but you just have to ask around.

I'm sorry, aren't 4.10's the popular option? I mean, unless you're going to compete? Maybe I'm just a 40 year old man but my car seems fast enough as it is, right out of the box.

Sorrry, I don't need to rain on anyone's parade....

Just curious.

3.73 are my choice with a stick car, I like frewways too much..........
With a auto 4.10 or 4.30 are a must.

Blower car, 3.55 anything lower and you blow the tires away.........

So are you saying that a lower or higher gear ratio is better for a blown car? I put larger tires in the back which unfortunately lowered my gear ratio. I am planning on a Procharger H.O. Kit install in the very near future and wanted to know what i should be running out back as far as gearing. My ratio at the moment with these tires is 3.34:notnice:

i would add 4.10s if i was you. that would make your ratio a little better for your set up, or change the tires.

I have ordered a Procharger to be fitted to a new 06 GT. The performance shop that is doing all the work told me to stay with the original gearing (5 speed manual) since I would be using the car as a daily driver. Otherwise, I would have to change gears too quickly and it would just be a general pain driving around town

With the 3.55's in mine, 1st gear is almost usless in daily driving. I drive an 18 wheeler for a living and find myself takin off in the Stang in second most times. 4.10-4.30's ? No way. A month ago I took the Stang up a narrow, rocky road up to timberline in the Colorado rockies. Even on that road, I could let out on the clutch and idle along uphill in 1st. You should have seen the looks I got from the rental jeep crowd. :rlaugh: :nice:

i dont understand,i have an 06 gt manual with a few mods and if i were to take off from a dead stop in second i would bogg for a while, i dont know if you just are used to launching at SUPER low rpms but i dont find first gear useless at all, i use it to 3500-4000k rpms and it gets me to at least 20 and then second gear catches reall nice. id bet with the 4.10's it would be drastically different but i dont necessarily agree with what your saying. Albeit you have a helluva lot more driving experiance than I so you are the authority on this subject matter, however im just not sure i share the same feelings about the stock gearing.

I don't "launch" the car in 2nd gear. In normal everyday driving I take off from a stop with it. Plus the fact that this transmission has trouble syncronizing when downshifting from 2nd to 1st, keeps me from using 1st in normal driving. The 3.55's are plenty low enough for me. I also wasn't aware that the 07's are being equiped with 3.31's I figured the LS 3.55 option now with the 07's was a response to complaints about the noisy trac-loc units at low speeds. I know mine's annoying in that regard.
