Looking at a new '07 Shelby GT to use as a family car for just the wife and I. That is if the deal can be low enough. Would trade the vert for it so it would be basically a daily driver. Would you do it or just go for a '07 Vert GT?

Yep, sorry about the label mistake.....not watching my type enough.

umm there is no such thing as an 07 GT350.

there are the Hertz GT-H (H means Hertz), Shelby GT (which is a glorified GT with a Shelby price), and Shelby GT500/KR

i was at a dealer just last friday. they have a Shelby GT with a sticker price of just over $30k. but with dealer markup was $43,000!!! absolutely insane. i'd get an 07 GT vert before paying over sticker for a Shelby GT.

Seen a Shelby GT/SC yesterday at a car show. It's the optional blower/rims/brakes package. $20K option. He paid $62K for it. Has two tunes for it that gives it 460 or 485 HP. Still not worth it though.

Get a regular GT, the Shelby GT isn't worth it even at sticker. Plus I dont think the Shelby GT even looks that good.

i edited the title for you to clarify it for everyone. the shelby gt is a nice car, but overpriced IMO. if you can deal on one and get it cheap, go for it. dont worry about it being a colectors item. just drive it! keep the original parts to return to stock if ever needed. you can make a shelby gt clone for much less than the sticker price if you buy a premium gt. the shelby just has the billet grille overlay and stripes for the appearance, and the ford racing power pack for the extra ponies. you can get much more power out of it if you go with an aftermarket tuner like SCT/diablosport.

its up to you in the end. if you feel you can get a good enough deal, go for it. if not, get a GT and make it better than the shelby.

I think the Shelby, besides the added HP that you can get in aftermarket parts and slightly different styling, appeals to those who want a piece of the Carroll Shelby heritage or have something a little different than everyone else. Yes, anyone with a GT can "make" their own Shelby GT, but for the same price, why not get one already built that has the warranty and the exclusivity.

Some like it, some don't.

You can make the car look 10X better and be 10X faster than the Shelby GT for the price difference. A Shelby is like $40k where you can get a loaded up GT for $30k. You could put a blower on it, rims, and Shelby front bumper and hood for under 10K.

Yes, the car is different but who cares, if its going to be a family car. Plus its not even considerd a "hot" car right now, there are dealrs around here that couldn't give the car away.

I think the suggested retail on the shelby GT is $7K over a standard GT. You may be able to get the FRPP suspension, FRPP performance package, body kit, gears, shifter, wheels and tires, etc for close to 10K but you wont get the shelby name and the resale value that goes along with it.

I wouldnt buy one, but I also wouldnt spend $30K for a new mustang GT either.
