08 GT oil burning?

Hi everyone,i'm new to this forum,my question is on my 08 GT there opperes to be a puff of blue smoke upon starting after setting for a few hours, the stealer says this is normal due to a rich charge of fuel upon shut down ,they claim it is not oil,my 99 GT never did this,is this unique to the 3 valve, thanks for your feed back. P.S.there is omly 650 miles on the Mustang.

Blue smoke is oil. That has nothing to do with running rich. They need to look at it more thoroughly. Make sure they've got the right oil in it and that there aren't any fouled plugs.

A little blue smoke on a new engine is acceptable. something about the rings not fully seating. its probably just a little blow by. i wouldnt be too concerned unless its constant

Many 4.6 3V engines, mine included, will put out considerable blue smoke upon startup, if the engine was run for only a short time on the previous startup. Example: Moving the car from the driveway into the garage so that the engine is started and run for only 20 seconds. Mine is 100 percent consistent on doing this and it has been from the time it was new. It is normal for the 3V engines and doesn't indicate a problem.

There are a number of threads about this on various Mustang forums.

However, it shouldn't burn blue any other time.

Don't worry about it unless it gets bad. My wife's 01 cobra has done it since we bought at 5k miles.

By the way, I am a new 08 owner also. Picked up my vista blue this past week and love it!

I was taught in auto mech school that usually puff of blue smoke upon starting the car meant that oil is seeping by the valve guide seals. Like Darkfire said check for fouled plugs.

My new 08 has yet to blow any smoke. I have about 600 miles on it. My 06, on the other hand, only smokes the tires.

There are many threads that talk about a bit of blowby on these 3V engines. This weekend I installed a Whipple HO and when I took off my stock intake and went to set it down, about 2 to 3 teaspoons of oil dripped out of it. This is blowby oil that is vented from the valve covers and is reintroduced into the intake. If some of this oil collected and then drained down onto the intake valve before startup, I'm sure you'd see a bit of blue on startup. I've ordered an air/oil separator to keep blowby oil from potentially fowling my intercooler. Monitor your oil consumption - if it's not excessive, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm considering the Whipple HO as well. Is the air/oil separator something that they recommend and if so, do they sell it as an option on their kit??
