not to rag on you, but a G-tech really isn't worth that much (I have one too). it's a "tuning" device, not a replacement for track times. not to mention, the MPH is AT the 1/4 mark, not averaged over the last 200 ft like it would be at a track.


but to answer your question, yes gears will help significantly. whether or not they'll get you in the 12s in going to be a question of whether you'll be able to hook up or not. if you got to the track and get us a proper timeslip (ie: one with a 60 ft time) that'll help a lot. but i imagine you'd drop a half second off your ET going from 2.80s to 3.55s.
 
I agree with Jeff. The G-tech isn't something to rely on for accurate 1/4 mile times or trap speeds. Get to a real track and get a real timeslip. With your HP figures, good traction, and a good 60ft time you could hit the 12s theoretically but you will only know if you get to a real dragstrip.
 
I've found the G-tech to be pretty accurate (or at least consistent) with ETs.

However, the MPH has always been high, but of course they explain why in the owner's manual.

You will definitely notice an increase in accleration with 3.50s. Of course traction is going to be more difficult to obtain. You should have the potential for high 12s with traction IMO.
 
I've always kinda wondered how it works by just plugging into the cigarette lighter also. But, I guess it could just use G-forces (maybe reason it's call "G-Tech").

How it knows when you've gone a quarter mile (and any other distances) and detects RPM, I have no idea.

It uses Calculus to obtain the distance.
One can calculate distance by measuring your accleration over time.
Obviously the hard part is accurately measuring the accleration :D
