hey guys, I have a question on my build... I bought a 302 motor off my friend with low miles... it had aftermarket roller rockers with heads with casting #'s d7oe.... i think there from the 70's anyways the motor is 1987 with the forged pistons it has e303 cam and paxton supercharger which i plan on using.. So I upgraded to gt40 heads that i bought for a decent price.. I had to order all new roller rockers because my friend only had 15 on the motor and 1 stock one... I got the whole set with 16 and they came with studs and all the good stuff but the studs are larger then the stock gt40 studs is there anything I can do about this? Do i have to use the larger studs? is there a way of making this work? I took some pictures to show what i mean.. you guys know more then I do and the help is greatly appreicated...
thanks guys

the 16 new roller rockers I ordered

the studs that the roller rockers came with vs the gt40 stud holes (yes I have bushings for the headbolts)

the 15 roller rockers that were on the motor

I can't see the rest of the stud you're talking about, but I'm assuming that it actually is a stud. Those are pedestal mount heads, so you need pedestal mount rocker arms. See if you can exchange those rockers for some pedestal mount ones, and you'll be good to go.

your probably right, I don't know much about them but i figured they were stud mount because the other heads I have still have all 16 studs, and i was gonna just switch the 16 studs over to the gt40 heads... i should of ordered pedestal mount ones though, is there still a way to keep the ones i have and use the studs off my other heads? I think if worse came to worse I could take the heads to a machine shop and have them drilled to the correct stud size like the ones that came with my roller rockers.... Basically the ones that came with the roller rockers are larger then the studs that are on my old heads which i was planning on using.. If i could use my old heads studs I would do that but I don't know if it would work or not

Crane sells a bolt on conversion kit that will work with your heads and allow you run the stud mounted rockers- but they will give you the studs to run in that kit. Its about $150 or so.

Make sure to check your pushrod lenght, geometry, and PV clearance.

Good luck...

thanks for the idea... Im gonna bring my heads to a machine shop to have them drilled for the 7/16ths studs because im gonna be running alot of boost and i have a decent size lift e303-1.7 roller rockers so im not sure if the 5/16 studs are strong enough, and may break in time and i don't think its gonna be alot to have the heads drilled out, plus there not bolted down and i havent installed the new headgaskets yet

It isn't that simple, they will also have to mill the ped down to convert the head to a true stud mount set-up to do what your are talking about. You can not just have the 5/16" holes drilled to 7/16". It is not worth putting that kind of money in those heads. If your die hard on the stud go with the Crane kit as mentioned above it is your ONLY choice

A ped set-up will work just fine for your intentions, the Ecam is very soft and the spring pressure required is very light, no issues at all. I have used that on customers cars with no problems for years.
