I have an oppertunity to pick up some 1.7 Crane roller rockers, pedestal mount. To my understanding, they will add about .30 lift. Can i safely bolt these onto my stock 88 motor and go? Or will i have piston-to-valve clearance or stock valvecover clearance?
They will increase your lift by about 0.030", not 0.300". PtV clearance issues? Probably not. But they will probably give you issues with your valve covers.
Just so you know, it won't be a huge gain in performance.
The valves wont open so far as to hit the pistons. What will happen though with stock valve covers is the passenger side with the oil fill, the second rocker back from the front rubs. This should be clearanced because it will touch in one area. I just pulled off my valve covers and I had the 93 rollers on their and the dude before just strapped them down and they wore their own clearance. Only in this one spot though.
