I've assembled many engines over the years.

But I would never confuse the engine assembly process in your garage (or mine) with how engines are assembled at Ford's Romeo factory.

Yeah, mine being much cleaner! Either way I would still change it.

I bought a new 01 GT Vert and I changed the oil at just over 1000 miles, it looked like it needed it. Besides, it just seems like common sense for the people with mechanical minds anyways. No matter how "clean" the assembly is there's always going to the fact that parts are getting broke in and all that crap ends up in your oil.

FYI

Manual says refill is 6 quarts, did not mention extra for filter. My (GT) car took 6.5 to fill with the filter.

Synthetic oil is the only way to go. I get close to 200k on my cars before I sell them & never any problems.

You would be really surprised to see what is suspended i your oil after 500-1000 miles, you should definetly change it. It only costs 20 bucks, after spending 25 g's you would think you'd have more sense.

Yes there will be metal shavings and plenty of dirt. You ever heard that most of the dirt in an engine gets there during assembly. You should also think about having the tranny and rear end drained and refilled...easy to do yourself and that would get the metal out of those cases too. When gears break in they make a mess..........

How do you figure that it's only $20. THe spec. oil is synthetic for the GT. It's gott be a $40 oil and filter change.

I change the oil in a new car pretty much as soon as I drive it off the lot.
Why?
I change it to synthetic oil. I've seen so many studies about how much better it is at preventing startup wear and many, many other benefits. I figure the time when an engine really needs startup protection the most is when it's new and everything is not broken in yet.
Just my $.02...

The Motorcraft 5w-20 is not full synthetic. It is a blend.

1040 mi here...rolled it over 1000.0 with the tires spinnin, just as i planned it. changed oil at 450mi (partial synthetic 5w20). will again at ~2000 with full synthetic
