Progress Thread 12th Owner: My '93 Notchback Restoration & Performance Build

Good suggestion, but way ahead of you. The factory air box is LONG gone. Remember, 12th owner here. While stock air boxes are available through mustang salvage yards they command big money. I checked Ebay yesterday while searching for a filter shroud and came across a few air silencers, but no original air boxes. When the tuner suggested a shroud I asked him about purchasing a different MAF meter. He told me to leave the set up as is because it was tuned in the current configuration, but to move the filter down a little toward the air box hole and buy a shroud to protect the open element conical filter from the turbulent engine bay air. I did go on LMR yesterday to research their intake pipes while searching for a solution, but they want $200+ for an Anderson pipe and it goes back to my earlier comment (a change in the current set up that the car was tuned for). I found a $13.00 3" ID silicon hose on Amazon last night. I'll trim that to length and install it. That will bring the filter down and set it just at the original air box point. As far as a shroud goes, I spent $4.72 at Michaels buying a 8"x10" clear plastic picture frame. I already measured it and it will work perfectly (no more than 2 screws to attach it). I'll heat up the picture frame and bend one side to get a two sided shroud to cover the filter. I'll post some post installation photos on Saturday.

My $13 Amazon purchased 3" ID x 6" long silicone hose coupler arrived today. Installion was non-eventful and it brought the conical filter down directly in line with the OEM air box hole.

I used an iron to soften up one side of my $5 Michaels 8"x10" plastic picture frame. Drilled two holes to connect it to where the air box would have been installed and presto I have a plastic shroud strong enough to greatly reduce air blasts coming from the e-fan and underside of the vehicle. On to the next project.
