You need to check those two slim head bolts. They look too thick to me. Looking at the timing chain cover it looks like the driver side one it contacting. I can see it on the bolt head as well in the second picture.

Other thing is to use a thin layer of ATV on both sides of the gasket. I use Fel-Pro’s and am not sure what brand those are as the Fel-Pro’s are blue.

Yep... Once you said it, I could see that too. That's a Ford Famous thing.

What do you think of this close up? They're definitely tight, but I don't see any rub marks.

I'm glad I took the water pump cover off. Looks like they both blew out.

Out of precaution, and not wanting to deal with this again, I'll grind the heads down. Good tip.

I have a spare set of the Ford ones as it seems all the aftermarket ones are too thick.

Let me know how your OEM bolts compare to these. I think I ground them down enough to clear with no issue...especially the one on the right.

Fel-Pro's are on order. I'll pick them up and reinstall tomorrow and add coolant on Monday and evaluate.

What's the deal with this little channel?

Bolt heads are good to go. That is the weep channel so you know you have a leak.

All back together. Just going to give her 24 hours and then I'll fill and burp the cooling system.

Thanks again for the tip on those head bolts. I can clearly see space between them and the timing cover now which is reassuring.

Yes, gauge reads just below the red (270 degrees) despite my Holley monitor showing the engine coolant was approximately 188 degrees. The sensor is also from the prior owner's build. So it's at least 10 years old. It's time to replace.

Since determining the Trick Flow Box R upper intake is not compatible with a stock height hood, I'm leaning toward having my Trick Flow Series R upper extrude honed. I already received a quote from Extrude Hone AFM in the greater LA area, and from my research this looks to be worth approximately 2-3% in increased power. Does anyone have experience with this process? This will likely be my last mechanical mod as my car is making approximately 402 at the rear tires and I want to keep it NA, but obviously 415 rwhp would be better.

Dudes used to get Cobra, GT-40, and Explorer plenums, extrude honed all the time.

They usually clean up the ports by hand, hook it up to the machine, and push abrasive Playdough through it until they get the inside diameter they're after.

Tracking. Just wondering about gains. I've got a tune already scheduled for 3 July. So either way I suppose I'll be reporting on it.

Most definitely blew the water pump gasket. And thinking back for the past few days, l do remember a slight leak ever since initial engine install by my mechanic.

Any suggestions from you all how to reinstall this securely so I never have to deal with a leaking water pump again is much appreciated. Stuff like, dry install or add some sealant? Thanks

Those bolt heads were contacting what, the WP? Caused an issue?
