I'm installing 130 amp alt. on a 1992 GT , how do you check if and how the altenator is charging properly. My application isn't charging, on a meter it reads 12.70,and dropping. What is the correct hookup installing a 130 amp alt? Thanks
Well, if you want to see if the alternator is working turn the car on and disconnect the positive cable on the battery (correct me if I'm wrong fellas). If the car doesn't die then the alternator is charging. Is the battery light on in your cluster?
Rerun's test works great on carbed vehicles. However, be cautious on computer controlled cars, as the resulting alternator voltage-spikes can be not-so-nice to the computer-controlled systems/components.
I think Fred is on the right track. Be sure the stator wire (whi/blk IIRC) is connected and that the stock charging wires are still connected at the solenoid (you tape-up that big connector on the alternator side [which has the two charge cables and stator wire] and leave the rest be - no disconnecting at the solenoid).
