Is this true or was I lied to?

If I had to say, I'd call

I've had my car up to 137, and I only let off because I was coming up on my exit. I'm sure I could of had it over 145mph.

lol thats so bs, I believe as far as gearing goes in a stock foxbody, it will run out of gear at something crazy like 200+ mph. You can do 90 at 2k rpms.....The fox starts to float around 140 though, fastest fox Ive ever heard of was the MM&FF project 200mph foxbody that went 193mph down the freeway with a 347 YSi setup.

It really depends on the rear gear in the car.. and how long the engine lasts with the Rpms pegged that high..

Ford listed the top speed for a stock geared, stock engined Mustang as 145 for many years. As far as 200mph is concerned, you're smoking crack. Aerodynamics start playing a HUGE part when you get into the mid-100's. You'd need monster power and really low gearing to get a Fox anywhere near 200.

Several years back, Road & Track had a project car that was a Firebird that they were trying to get to 200 for several months. They dumped a ton of money into it and I think the closest they got was 195ish.

He was just saying as far a gearing goes a stock fox is theoretically capable of 200+. We all know that wouldn't happen in real life.

I have had mine to 142 (portable gps) in fourth at redline and I have 3.08's in it still. Had I had more road fifth would easaly pulled past 155. So 145 cant be right.

Stock, fox-body Mustangs are drag-limited around 140 mph. Gears will help increase the top speed by a few mph, as they allow the engine to rev higher into the power band to overcome some of the drag. Almost all cars (with the exception of some of the exotics) reach their top speed in the gear before overdrive. If you went into 5th you could expect that you would actually slow down, as OD pulls the engine out of the power band, and drag takes over. So 155 is highly doubtful.

I've had my 86 up to 4500rpm in 4th w/ the 2:73's, which I figure to about 130mph. The car was still pulling hard, I let off because the front end was feeling light.

I didn't doubt your claim of 142mph. Theoretically, the top speed in 4th gear, with 3.08 gears, and 25.5" tires, is 143 mph at red line. It would only take 10 to 15hp over stock to get it there. But, unless you're putting out almost 305hp @ 3900 rpm, you are not going to get it up to 155 mph in 5th.

Yeah i seem to remember something about a 2.73 geared 5 speed has a top speed that's actually more like 300mph when you do the math...it's pretty absurd.

^ If they have, I hope they have a lot of suspension and brake mods. I start to get really nervous around 120. Especially if I hit a bump - 4 link rear + high speed + hitting a bump with only one rear tire = poop in pants.

(I live in Germany, so driving over 100mph is pretty normal for me - and I can tell you with a straight face that stock fox suspension and brakes are worthless at high speeds.)

well i know for a fact that i've at least gone 85MPH...lol anything beyond that i cant prove unless someone wants to do the math, i run 3:08's, an 86GT WC T5, and 215/60/15 tires, i once went 2,900-3,000RPM in fifth gear downhill. that night almost ended my life so i wont be doing that again...

Think what you guys will, but the car will do it. My mods are in my sig, pretty damn stock if you ask me. Now, I will say that my car has only 40k miles on it, so it's healthy, and it runs VERY good for a stock 5.0. I've beaten heavier modded 5.0s pretty badly. But, at the same time, it's clearly not much over 200rwhp with those mods, if at all. As far as 140mph top speed, I have had the car to 5k rpm in 5th. This is with a stock t5, 3.55s, and 225s on 10 holes. You can do the math, but according to an online calculator I found at the time, it was around 155. I should also mention that it wasn't stopping, I lifted cause I was running out of room. After I figured out how fast it was I found it hard to believe, but numbers don't lie. It didn't feel unstable at all like you guys are saying, even on bone stock 20 year old suspension. It seems like the guys that claim it won't do it are just the ones that haven't done it. Oh, and you should know that I don't give a **** what anyone thinks, so I have no reason to lie haha.

Believe what you will, but it's not going to happen. There are known major inaccuracies in both RPM and speedo calibration which gets worse with higher speed and rpm. Unless you had another way to measure rpm and speed…all you have is an estimate (and not an accurate one at that).
