can you calculate my 4000rpm in 5th gear with 2:73 gears, at 60mph I'm dead on 1500rpm (my tires are taller than stock). Car would not slow down in 5th, I wasn't flooring it, I know I could have taken it further too... I guess I have more power than a stock Mustang but the car didn't feel all too bad at those speeds, just real light. Also note that my car weighs less than 2800lbs.

Alright, with the 215 65 16 tires and 4000 in 5th with the 2.73's....the estimated speed is 173mph. To funny...it just goes to show how much things can be out of wack.

A stock 86 speedo won't wrap itself around like that. The needle stops once it hits the bottom, center of the speedo. I've done it more times than I can count.

The speedo in my 87GT only goes to 180km/h. It passes the last mark around 4k in 4th (2.73s).

My car is bone stock. But i figured id give it a run since I put new tires and wheels on it. Needle was pointing almost 6 o'clock which i estimate to be 210km/h.

131MPH for you americans.

This was around 5k in 4th, im sure with 2.73s, shifting to 5th woulda slowed things down.

you dont know that my speedo dosent have the little black piece of metal that pushes the trip meter back to zero do ya? I dont have that piece so it will prolly go back around to 85 if it wanted to, or my car was faster.

Ive maxed out overdrive with 275/50/15's and 4.10 gears about 6500 rpms. My suspension is nowhere near stock and I have alot more power then stock. My speedo was showign well past 140 but Im not sure how accurate it was. What does this work out to

That works out to between 105 to 115 mph.

Very true. One must remember that aerodynamic drag increases by the square of speed, and the power needed to overcome it increases BY THE CUBE!

If you want to double your speed, you need EIGHT TIMES as much power to do it.

Using your 110 to 145 mph example:
If a vehicle needed 100hp to reach, 110 mph, it would actually need 129 MORE horsepower (229 total) just to gain that 35 mph! It would take 800hp to get it up to 220mph.

Bingo.

After a certain point the HP required to gain 10MPH is significantly greater than the HP required for the previous 10MPH. It grows exponentially.

A fox is limited to approx 145 due to areodynamics and HP limitations. Increase your HP and you can go faster, the t-5 is geared for it. You just need power to overcome the sever drag.

That's why i always laugh when some kid in some 200HP car claims he has done 160MPH in it. Breaking 150MPH requires approximately 300-350HP. Even my 260HP Gt has struggled to hit 150MPH in that one crazy time i had a chance to try it.

FWIW, the Lincoln Mark VIII held the production car land speed record with a completely stock DOHC 4.6L at one time. Given, they modified the car, itself, by adding panels to the underbody and using really skinny tires/rims with those smoothie hubcaps to reduce drag significantly, but they got some pretty amazing speeds outta that thing with just a stock DOHC 4.6L...

183MPH if i remember. It was a 1993 Mark 8. I remember reading about it because I had a 1993 Mark8. I beleive it was stock save for safety equipment, the hub caps and lowering the air suspension a bit

I beleive it because my Mark 8 was such a great highway car. It turned low RPM's at highway speed and it's long shape just slipped through the air. I used to spank a lot of Mustangs from a 70MPH roll

Some guy took an '03 Cobra and all they did was install safety gear and taller tires in the back and it broke 200mph on the salt flats.

Well, i do agree with you about most people not ever seeing 140MPH.

I made my run downhill if that's any consolation. I was up in Maine, came up over a hill/small mountain and it was just a downhill flat straight 4-lane highway with NOBODY on it and you could see for 2-3 miles ahead. This was the perfect opportunity if there ever was one. It was about 30* downhill, so i had help topping 140

It would take roughly 660 hp to get a fox-body up to 200mph. Obviously there are cars that hit that speed with less hp than that (the Ford GT -- 205mph with 500 hp). The coefficient of drag plays a huge part in the equation. There are cars that have gained 10mph in top speed with just a body redesign that lowered the Cd. As far a drag goes, the fox-body is pretty much a brick compared to the GT.

I've been reading about people not being able to hit 140+ but I've done it on more than one occasion with my old 90GT that had a few mods but no serious power adders just normal bolt on's. So I do know its possible.

Again...so you think. Even with your mods, you are no where near the power level required to run at those speeds. Using a simple gear calculator, 6500rpm with those tires and a t-5 in 5th is an approximate 179 mph.

With my mods I have been around 160 165 and was sitting quite nicely. Honestly it really just depends on the mods. I have suspension mods, along with a vortech s/c and h/c/i and it was easily done, and gained quite nicely in 5th. Point is, aerodynamically its quite capable, just not the safest. Reason I know I was going that fast, my old man has an 03 anniversary terminator and was in front of me. Stock my fox was toast around 140-145. I will never go that fast again in my fox as I have no desire. Once done, its been achieved.

thats still was with the stock tach. Maybe I need to get some speedo pics or maybe a vid right?

Again, you cannot trust the stock tach. They have been known to be 1k+ rpm off...especially the higher you go.

As far as speedo pics or a video goes...what exactly would that prove?

Best way to confirm ACTUAL top speed is go have it radar verified.

So go out there, find a cop and fly by him. Then scan the ticket and there is the proof!
