150lbs of weight reduction

I want to remove about 150lbs from a 88lx

best way of doing this? I have 2 requirements..

I'm not going aluminum heads and I need a sway bar!

everything else I can pretty much rip out..

a/c is gone, smog is gone, fiberlgass hood, thinking of doing front bumper supports, dog bone, help me out what else is left?

Rear seats are worth about 50-60 lbs. Is your spare tire and jack out? If not, get them out. They're heavy. Do you have light weight wheels (ie draglites, etc...)? If you replace the OEM driver and passenger seat with an aftermarket seat you could save 25-30 pounds each at least. Factory seats and HEAVY!

Removing bumper supports is not wise IMO.

well, not sure what you mean by dog bone,
but consider swapping to a manualk rack? thats some good weight loss.
um, you probably would not consider it if your not swapping heads you probably dont want to pull the engine? Get a lighter k-member.

or just be like my sister or some other ricers and take your seats out :P

Rear bumper is 44lbs...
Heater core is um...23lbs?
You keeping the carpet? Pull it up and remove the sound insulation...12+lbs.
If you're going to the track front sway bar removes/installs easily...

there is a part on a mustang the removes AND installs easily??????????????????? lol haha:rlaugh:

i ripped off my rear seats, sound deadening insulation, heater core, cruise control unit, windshield wiper arms and motor got tossed, converted to carb, got rid of all the fuel injected harnesses, front bumper support is gone, ac is gone, aluminum radiator, weld wheels, and i cut the crash beams out of the doors and i think im going to throw a fiberglass hatch on too

Do the rear seats really weight that much? I took mine out along with the rear carpet and stuff (it's ugly but whatever) more-or-less just for the fun of it a couple weeks ago and they didn't feel that heavy at all.

its not just the seats tho. remeber, its all the seatbelts, supporting brackets and hardware. that stuff adds up. i think im going to remove everything, but put the seats back in as a delete.

not to steal the thread, but i also have removed the ac, smog, cats, tailpipes and an a few other things....how much weight do u think that i have removed? i also removed the condensor and all ac lines when doing the ac delete......

Depends on what you want, If its just a race car, strip anything thats not used to run down the track, Evrything!!, If its a street car as well you have to pick and choose between what you need or want, and safety concerns i.e. bumper supports, door crash beams,

Driveshaft.
Lightweight flywheel.
Scrap all the crub off the bottom of the car.
Get rid of the insulation under the carpet, and the carpet
Rear seats,
Full tublar front suspension coil overs.
Light rims
Small light battery
Guess it depends on how much a "race car" you want versus a "street car". Also remember best way to loose a pound is find 16 places to loose an ounce.
