I'm looking at picking up some 15's for track use. Curious what backspace people are running out back with their 15x8 welds and centerline wheels with a decent sized DR on them. My old '89 had 15x8's with what I think was 4.5" backspacing, and the 255/50/15 tires rubbed on the fender lips.........wondering if the 5.5" will cause problems if I want to retain the tailpipes on my '93 coupe (quadshocks are already gone). Looking to hear from people who have 15x8's that don't rub, and don't require rolling the fender lips or pounding in the inner wheel well. I'm willing to sacrifice some tire width to achieve this. Thanks for any advice guys.

Nick. I went through the same dilema a few months ago. Neither Centeline or Weld Racing make the proper backspacing for a Mustang in 15 inch.

The Welds have either a 4.5 inch or 5.5 or 6.5 inch and only carry 7, 8, 9 or 10 inch widths. 4.5 is too small for a 8 and leaves the wheel sticking out like this. Note: it would be the same with a 9 inch wide wheel and 5.5 inch BS.

5.5 on an 8 leaves it in too much.
With Centerline it was the other way around. 8.5 inch wide wheel with only a 5 inch BS.

They actually made a wheel that had the proper BS and discontinued it. It was the Draglite XP. The guy from Summit said "there wasn't enough cars that required them" and I said "yeah, there aren't any Mustangs on the road..."

That is what I ended up buying but in 16 inch for the rear. It was a 16 X 8.5 inch wheel with the 5.5 inch BS and it fit PERFECT! Used with 245/50/16 Nitto DR's.

Here's how they fit.

Then I just put on some 15" Centerlines I had on the front.

Damn, that's kiknd of what I thought. Found it really odd that searching through posts, I couldn't find ANYONE who could get either the centerlines or welds to fit without any trouble. Wonder if there are any other big/little wheels out there that actually fit right that don't cost a small fortune.........

Funny thing is that I was thinking about getting those XP's a while back, but didn't want to because you couldn't get skinny's in the same diameter. Kind of wish I would have sucked it up and ran 16's out back and 15's up front in retrospect. I'll keep a lookout on e-bay I guess. Thanks for the help man.

No problem.

If you are still interested in the 16's for the rear and 15's for the front Jegs still has some of the 16's. I would call them.
Thats where I found mine.
