I want to increase the sidewall on mine, as well as going to a wider tire to improve traction.

Since a stock wheel (245/45/17) has an overall diameter of 25.68, 315/35/17s would be the same height and sidewall (4.34"), but wider of course. With 16" rims, I could go to a 305/40/16 tire with a 4.88" sidewall, which should improve traction.

Does anyone know of a company that makes 16" rims? You can definately get alot of sidewall with 16" rims, but ...

1. Will 17" rims with 315/35 tires fit without rubbing on anything?
2. Will 16" rims work with the Bullit brake upgrade?
3. How much more traction do you get with .54" more sidewall (or extra 1.08" if you count the top and bottom)?
4. What combo of rims and tires would YOU go with if you were trying to get good traction out of your 410?

I guess 315/35/17 on a deep dish FR500 might be a pretty good compromise ...

I see Low-5.0 has 315/35/17s, I wonder if he had to do anything in the rear to get time to fit ...

I run a 315x35x17 on a 17x11 rear. They fit with the stock susp. but I did have to flip the quad shock. I get alittle rub on funky uphill turn angles but not much...I do have bullitt springs with no isolators so it sits lower than stock.

The problem with what your wanting in a 16in rim is that its going to be HARD to find a tire. You can get the rims made wider, but the tires are going to be HARD to find.

A 17in rim with a good DR should hook up, but if your that worried about tire life you might want to get 2 sets of rims. 17x10.5 or 11 for the street and a 15x10 in for those evenings your cruising/going to the track (even though you said you do not go)/want to go hunting. 2 sets of rims can be a PITA but if your wanting a 17in tire that you can DD and then one that will give you the best chance of hookin'...it woudl be nice.

Since its going to be a DD and you may get cought in some nasty weather...I would look into 2 sets of rims...I plan on getting some nitto/bfg/MT DR for the 17's when the street tires go but I have a set of welds that will get a set of ET streets or MT DR for the sidwall to replace the bfg DR on them. Its not a DD so I am not worried about it.

I think the Bullit brake kit is the same as the Cobra no? If it is then it wont fit.

And My 315's on 17's only needed a little inner fender massage. Now I have some 1/4 in spacers too.

I have the 315/35 (Nittos) on 17X11s. The Nittos are more narrow (just a hair over 12") than the other tires and sit just inside my wheel weld and my car is dropped pretty low - but I have the MM coilovers with stiff springs - not much movement. Check out my picture you should be able to see.
