Hey all,

I replaced the wiper blades on my '87 LX tonight...it's only the second replacement set in 25 years...and I noticed that there's a huge uncleared area above and below the blades on each side.

Anybody ever try popping 17" or 18" blades on? I would have but I never drive the thing in the rain so I don't want to get caught in a shower, like, five years from now and find out there's an interference problem.

Thanks! Carl

I don't remember but it seems like I've been down this road before and the problem is that you eventually hit the window trim. If nothing else, buy the cheapest wipers you can find and see how they work as far as clearance. Hell, go to the junkyard and measure and they'll probably give you some old wipers for free to try it out. Or you could just buy them and if they don't fit, exchange them for 16s.

You could also run your regular wipers, and flip off the key to stop them at different points in their swing arc, and measure how much clearance you have. Experiment with larger wipers accordingly.

Yep, it would be easy enough to try, I was just curious if anyone had tried it already.
