17x9 or 17x10.5 in the back?

When I get my Mustang, I want to get some wider wheels for it. I was thinking of going either 17x9 or 17x10.5 in the back, using the 17" Bullitt replica rims. I have some questions regarding this:

1. Are the "replicas" any worse than the real wheels?
2. Are any modifications needed to fit 10.5" wheels?
3. It seems that the price difference after tires is not much - around $200 at most for 2 wheels and tires. Is there any reason to go 17x9 over 17x10.5?
4. Are drag radials OK for daily driving? They seem to be almost 2x cheaper than regular tires of the same size.

NO, NO, YES...ONLY for price and maybe more tires available(not good reasons LOL), NOT REALLY. Get the 10.5s and 285/40/17 kumho ecsta MX rear tires. $139 each....thats what i got and they look pretty good to boot. (hook great too) Ill post some pics here in a sec.

Nice.. that's what I wanted to hear. How much did you entire wheel+tire setup cost you, and where did you get eveything?

Rims were $159 each i think (2) ,and got if off of stangnets own part shopper....you can also go to www.wheelreplicas.com and get them...they are the anthricite (sp) BTW. Tires were $139 each (2) and got them from www.tirerack.com . Again, tire size was 285/40/17.

I checked out the tires on Tirerack, and they're 169/each now.

My wife and I put 315's on the rear of our stangs. Lots of traction and looks really mean. I think 285's are a little small for the rim. Discount tires really only suggested 315' compared to 285's. I asked a few different places and they all said pretty much the same thing. I would post pics but this site says the pics are to big. I don't understand that, there are set on the smallest settings. They work fine on our www.lonestarstangs.com web site.

Yes, go with the 17x10.5s and get you some 315s, those things look mean on the stangs! Thats my next mod on my list for my '96 Cobra is some Chrome Bullits or Chrome Cobra Rs (Cant decide which i want) with some 315s in the rear. Cant Wait!!!!!!

Hmm.. most 315's are really expensive, but there are ridiculously cheap for some reason.

$169? Dang they are getting greedy. I agree that 315s look ALOT better, but I cant make myself pay $250 per tire LOL..... No problems with fit either. I think next time I may get some 315 Nitto DRs....but I am not sure. A mod on LSS put 335 V700 Kumho tires on his 10.5 bullits he just got....I saw them in person, fit fine and looked MEAN! Next time if I am going to spend 250 bucks, ill just buy some 335s.

What are you talking about??? Tire rack has 315's for under $200.00 ...
Kuhmo's for $200.00
Sumitomo's for $110.00
BFG drag radial's for $151.00

And discount has nitto drag radials for $170.00

Those seem like pretty good prices to me.

If you are lowered or planning on lowering your car and go with 315's be prepared to roll your rear fenders so you can go up steep driveways at an angle without scraping the front,cats, exhaust etc., I had to roll mine. But I guess it depends on tire brand as some run wider than others.

Daily driving is O.K.. But in wet weather they sort of suck. Those sumitomos or kumho's may be a little better for a wet surface compared to the nitto's and the bfg drag radials. If you don't have to drive your stang in the rain, I would get the drag radials.

I didn't have to roll my fenders on my bullitt and that's w/ a 3/4" drop compared to the factory gt's. And I really dont scrape unless I go over a mountain for a speed bump.

My current car has really crappy Bridgestone Potenza RE92's that slip and slide in the rain.. I hate it. That is a factor for me for sure..

I am talking about street tires. The sumitomos are $110, but come on LOL. 110 bucks, I couldnt imagine how those would be LOL. Ther other tires are Competition DOT approved tires...not good for street use. I have 275/50/15 nitto DRs, they hook great and can be daily driven, but I really wouldnt recommend them. Well if he does alot of highway miles. But to get a "good" 315 tire, your going to have to shell out well over 200.

Alright, basically man it all depends on what you want. You want a DR, get the nittos. You want a good street tire, spend 250 and get the 315 BFG KDW. Want a cheap 315, sumitomos. Want some great, low price tires. 285 Kumhos all the way. I have pulled a 1.90 60' on my kumhos with 30PSI in them, they hook great. Anyone with 315 non DRs get a better 60? Just curious...I think the KDWs would be able to beat its 60's, but not sure about any other.
