180 thermostat

I just bought a 98 GT and was wondering how a colder thermostat like a 180 would affect the car. The car is stock except for a set of flowmasters. Some people have told me it is good for a few horsepower ,but others have told me that it is pointless without a tune. I am to use to carbed 5.0s and don't have much experince with a 4.6. So any help would be great.

I use one on my car. The only thing I noticed was the gauge read a little lower. No performance increase at all, just peace of mind I guess! I have a handheld tuner and I changed my fan to come on earlier with the lower temp t-stat.

180 is fine, but anything colder will not allow the car to reach proper operating temps.
