Please be aware that while 18s' offer a great "bling" factor IMO, they also offer the oppurtunity to run a large caliper/rotor setup on the front and rear. This does help with a decrease in the stopping distance.
Secondly, removing the quad shock is completely acceptable if the car runs a decent lower control arm. The quad is strictly there to reduce wheel hop, whereas an aftermarket LCA will effectuate the same. Of course, the need to remove the quad shock also depends on the wheel width and offset. In my case I did not need to remove it to fit the wheel but instead decided to pull it once I put on some decent LCAs.
Thirdly, I seriously debated running a 17" FMS wheel but ended up going with the 18", why? because Saleen only makes the 99-04 wheels in 18". That is the size that looks authentic and I refuse to get a cheap copy version in 17".
Also, I would hope you know this, however, most 18s are heavier than 17s. While this may not be the case with the MM Maxxim 18" wheels, I know it is with my Saleens. I also decided to compensate for this weight by getting 2 piece rotors at all four corners which is a reduction of 5lbs per rotor.
We all know you don't like 18s but there are plenty of us that still do. Hopefully you feel a little more "inlightened" now.

It would be the same if I wanted steel 14"s with babymoons and thick whitewalls which I don't. 13" rotors front and back will fit under 17"s.
Anyway, I'm just giving ya'll a hard time, I really don't care if either way, it's not my car or my money.
