1967 Mustang

My Stang came with a 289, I have a 390 that is being given to me.
They cam with a 390, what do I need to bolt it in?
the ford part number are for frame 6028 r.h.
6029 l.h

now the intermead plat 3038

next is the motor mounts 6046 r.h
6046 l.h.

are these the only ones I need to put the 390 in?
thanks

You need a tranny compatible with the 390.
Depending on what the 289 had behind it, you may need driveshaft work.
The FE is alot heavier too. The front end is going to go LOW.

What did the 390 come out of?
You may need specific exhaust manifolds or headers (you may already have planned that route...).

Were Stang 390s available with FMX?
I am not real familiar with FE Stangs.
That may be a tranny option, and may be less work if your car was C4 originally.
Someone better versed in FE Stangs will have to confirm though.

He'll also need the big block transmission cross member. The FMX's also came with FE bells. I've got one hangin in my shop (anyone want it? ) Heads were specific to the Stangs, Fairlanes and Cougars, they had a different bolt pattern. Unless your heads are the 67-up castings, you cannot drill and tap the GT/CJ pattern into the heads. Headers are a must-- best ones are FPA's. Hooker's long tubes are a bitch in a big block Stang--- 3 hours just to install and tighten the bolts. Starter access is likewise a bitch. Ground clearance is also a PITA with Hookers. With the extra weight, you'll also need to beef up the suspension and unibody, the big block Stangs had different shock towers to handle the weight. Unless you have all the parts to do the swap, your best option is to go with a Cleveland or Stroker Windsor-------- big block power and everything bolts in place of a 289.
