Like the title says folks, I could actually consider painting the body today. I have an hour left of sanding on the primer, two super small bb sized dimples in the roof that didn't fill with primer to glaze, and I'll be at that point.

It's almost inconceivable.

Here's what is standing in the way:

1. The garage isn't prepped to paint a car in.

2. The long body lines that extend down the sides of the quarters are bare metal.

3. The body needs sealed.

4. I only have a little over a half gallon of the orange left.

#1. I'm watching another thread on a different forum. The guy painted his car in SS in his garage, and did little more than drape some plastic sheet over the things that he didn't want over spray on, His paint, and parts came out really nice. The Guy's a paint and product rep for Fuzor/PPG I think. His take on that is that he has super cleaned the car, and the space around it. Masked the car to the floor, and doesn't move air while he's painting.
That is @Davedacarpainter question/situation #1, requiring the pro's perspective.

#2. The long body lines. I was just gonna hit those lines w/ rattle can etching primer.

#3. I have sealer. I bought two qts, and it's activator when I bought the current 2k primer from Summit. Low VOC stuff.

#4. Probably the biggest problem here. I haven't looked, but I'm thinking that there is a little over 1/2 gallon remaining of the orange. I have to paint the body, trunk, (both sides) doors, fenders, and a small portion of the hood (the center 2/3 section will be satin black, as will the bottom,...I may get fancy with the bottom, and paint the same mirror scheme under the hood that will be on the top side)

@Davedacarpainter question #2 is should I attempt painting the car with this amount of paint?

Here's the rub:

Today is about as perfect a day as I'm gonna get to do it till fall. The humidity is low, the ass hole next door neighbor has already appeared and did his riding lawn mower thing. I can work on getting the car ready most of today, and save the last 2 hours for the color application if I can do this.

Once the body is in color, I'll put tires on and make it roll-able and work the remaining panels, The fenders and the hood are really all that needs any tough love. The doors are b-able, as is the trunk. Once the panels are ready, I'll do the same thing w/ the car out in the sun at some future Thursday...

Well?........Can I do this thing Dave?

Single stage paint job, right Mikey?

If so, what's the mixing ratio and check to see what you really have too.

Well, it's not all that.

The other thing a real Gila Monster has is a beaded skin.

I got that too .....

In spades.

Orange peel so bad on the passenger side that I'm not sure it can be cut and buffed w/o cutting through. It took so much paint to cover, there's nothing left, and I still have all of the other pieces left. That means a new gallon, and a possible difference between the panels.

Debris, bugs, and various assorted junk has found its way into the paint.

But,....

The body is freakin straight.

So I got that going for me...........
Which is nice.

Well at least with more paint you have the ability to re-coat if necessary

Ah, it'll clean up well. They say 90% of a paint job is finishing work.
