Ok...I'm back.

The orange 90 isn't long for the world...ill end up replacing that thing with black...( despite the fact that I have 3 of these damn orange 90's)
Obviously, I chose not to wrap any of the hot side..it will be a pain in the ass.
Left to do:
I gotta splice the fpr back into the vacuum/boost system so the it'll start adding fuel under boost. I have to plumb in oil feed and oil drain lines... I gotta re plumb the boost duty solenoid into the Wastegate.

I gotta reconfigure the crankcase vent lines to some catch can..( I'll probably just buy one)...
i have to mount the Snow cooler activation/safety solenoid as a fail safe against accidental seepage/siphoning of the water meth into the engine...

And I gotta Hook up the BOV... to the iron lung.

Once all of those odd and ends are complete,...I have a running engine again...I'm thinkin Monday....

I’m excited to see the monster run under this configuration Mike.

You still have the coolest build around. (Though I have to admit Steve’s engine is pretty dang cool!)

Its now needs another sticker in addition to the "Please Do NOT Feed the Goldfish" sticker required on the Aquarium.

Now it needs a "Please Do NOT feed the Escargo" on the Turbo Housing.

The Glia Monster is being Genome Modified again.

Thanks,...as am I. ( that's why I've been leaving early, and doing stupid sht with painted parts...trying to get it done)

I have no idea as to how it'll run. I have no idea about whether it'll be a lazy pig, and slow to come into boost, or whether it'll make boost as easily and as quickly as the old unit did. The whole compressor map voodoo science thing escapes me.
( besides,...this Chinee turbo don' come wid no stinky map anyway)
I think the wheels are bigger, and the housing is smaller than the old one...that's all I'm certain about.

It'll be Grand National quiet this time around though...I know that for a fact.. ( and that's a good thing) adding that second straight through muffie earlier this summer quieted it down dramatically when it was running for the 5 minutes comparatively naturally aspirated...it'll be stealth mode now that the turbo is back on..

A freakishly fast poisonous lizard, quietly prowling around........... looking for unsuspecting rodents to bite, paralyze, and consume.
Then just as sneakily.......moving off to some flat rock to sun himself,.....basking in his orangeness.

On a serious note...the air filter...
I could hook the damn thing up directly to the turbo. That'll keep it out of the wheel well, and out of the potential water spray should I get caught out in the rain.
But obviously it'll be breathing engine bay heat.
There are the old 4", and 3" holes in the fender apron to allow me to build a cover to help isolate the thing though.

Or,mi could just do like I did before, and hang that dude in the wheel well. It'll mean a 90, and a 45* bend in the inlet air path though.

Can you build a duplicate box as the throttle body plenum? Attach one of your orange 90's on the underside to scoop in air from underneath... Gives an added feature to look at with the hood up, and isolates the filter like a factory style air box.

It's weird for me. There are weekdays when if I decided to close my eyes after looking at the time first thing,......
I'd go right the hell back to sleep,...and wake up hours later.

Too Late for morning coffee,.......too late to watch any news,....too late to check in, and dick around here for awhile...too late for work.

Butttt...........

Let it be a Sunday.
Let it be the day where I absolutely don't HAVE to do nothin'

And I'll be dead awake at 6AM.........and have to force myself to stay in bed.

I just get up instead.

It's the cars fault. The car talks to me in the wee hours. It's like it's alive. Like a dog that you started to pet, and now the damn thing won't leave you alone. It corrupts free space in my head....You guys just think I do sht over several times......you should see how many times it's already been hashed over in my head before I ever bend, cut, or weld a single damn thing.

Remember this?

This idea had been rolling around in my head since 2007. I actually tried to put it into play on the 1953 Studebaker street rod that I was trying to build back then. But failed at it.
I failed at it twice in this current car before I finally figured out how I wanted it to look..
What something looks like in my head, or on paper never turns out to look that way in reality....
But I get it close..

The plan was to have the bars "float" with no obvious tie to any mounting system. And they were supposed to be one continuous circle of steel,....completely surrounding the driver and passenger..
The freakin little Japanese Kid forced me to adapt that plan.

How about this?

That took 5 times to become this:

In reality, I'll bet that the current version don't do jack with regard to forcing air into the rear radiators...I always kinda regret sht-canning the original "Countach style" scoops, given that I didn't know then how the whole monster was gonna turn out..( I think he coulda carried those things and rocked them...) id probably have had to call them "Gila bags"...since they were kinda saddle baggy looking.

Of all the things that started out in my head, moved to paper, then into reality on this car that ended up looking dead to rights was this one little detail....the front lower valance.

But look at all of the rest that didn't carry....
My right side bulged hood ( that was its own total project ending fiasco)
The license plate lives in the bumper, the tail lights are recessed, and the original G-hole exhaust tip is gone,...cut up for scrap..

All of this reminiscing revolves around my choice to stick that air filter in the wheel well, or attach it directly to the turbo, and build a box cover over it to isolate from under-hood heat.
I'm really getting tired of all of the fab work that's stopping me from being done.
The simplest damn thing is to stick it in the fender well again, but the vey next time I'd get caught in a rainstorm like I did last summer, I'd be gritting my teeth wondering how much tire spray that filter was soaking up,...wondering how much longer I could drive it until a completely soaked air filter was gonna stop me dead on the side of the road.

The other painfully simple solution is to just attach the stupid filter to the turbo, and build a two sided box that mounts to the fender apron and seals the filter from engine bay heat ( which effectively make up the 3rd and 4th sides of a box)

Then I'd have this " what the hell is that big box thingy in front of the turbo" thing that I'd have to deal with......if not from onlookers,......then definitely from my perspective.

You'd think that I live for this sht but I don't...I just want to drive it...
But it's gotta be fun.
It's gotta look good.
And I gotta like it.

I think at about 15mph it's exposed to incoming air. Maybe at idle in traffic it sees some heat. The paint can idea is actually pretty good. You don't have to hang the filter down in the possible water. Get a 4 eye snorkle tube and attach it where it should go. Then put the filter inside the fender just off the tube. The wrap it with a can or a box with a clear lid to tie into the look of the itb box. I like that idea better because it's easy to see if the damn filter has fallen off!

I was able to work on the monster for several hours today...there are several obstacles presenting themselves that I'll need to deal with tomorrow.

The drain tube coming off of the turbo is gonna be the hardest to deal with...the old turbo location had a straight shot between the header tubes...the new location makes that impossible. I'll have to find a way to make some hard line that'll run parrallel to the side of the oil pan forward so I can get a drain hose hooked up to it.
I need some more air line to complete the water meth injection and a couple of pipe nipples so as to be able to tie everything in.

The car is start-able tomorrow afternoon...I can't wait.

Isnt weird to stop and reflect back on all the work you've done? I did the same thing the other day. I dont feel like my car is anything special, but in reality I have replaced and refurbished a lot of it.

I used to think that when a shop took 2 years on a full resto that I could never be a customer waiting that long for my car... I believe September will be the two year mark of owning my car, and I have put about 30 miles on it in that time.

All righty then....

I have a running car.

The only thing that needed adjusting was the fuel pressure regulator since it's now seeing vacuum again..I had to add 3.5 psi to bring it back up to 43.5.

The oils drain line was a sonofabtch. My head hurts from screaming at it. The fitting on the pan is right in front of the starter, and immediately behind the kmember crossover point. There was a crossover line coming from the water pump, and all you could do was get your hand up in there and touch it. Needless to say, getting the plug out, and a 90 degree fitting back in tested my patience.

I failed that test miserably.

I had to cut up one of the old sockets I've had for a bazillion years to allow me to turn the 90 degree fitting to get it tight enough and clocked the way I needed it to go.

Once I got the 90 in there, I added a 8" long piece of pipe to run it out alongside the pan rail, and put a -10 male fitting on the end there so I could attach the drain hose from the turbo.

That short little bastard did not want to thread on either.

The vacuum hose thing is the definition of menagerie.

So far, I'm leak free,.so those hose lock dealy bobbers are doing the job.

The boost controller is hooked back up, and I only have to enable it in the tune again to have that thing working again.

Obviously, the air filter is back where it was......hanging out in the wheel well.
Mr air filter? Meet Mikes right front tire. Maybe the two of you can share some rainwater the next time it rains...
In the other wheel well is the Snow Cooler fail safe solenoid..

I had to drain the antifreeze so I could build the return line from the heater. Adding the air inlet for the turbo forced me to redo it.

I still gotta figure out my crankcase catch can thing....the old goofy looking thing don't fit where it used you be, and the front fitting hits the hood anyways. so, I gotta drop the thing down to one hose. Hopefully, one -12 hose is enough for this engine now that it isn't huffing oil vapor like it did before.i think I'm gonna put it up front behind the grille or something...that ugly little box don't need to be seen, I just gotta be able to get to it.

This whole conversion seemed more difficult than the original install. I'm done, but it's still on Jack stands. I still have the catch can thing to figure out, and a couple of interior pieces to screw back on. It is much quieter than it was N/A as was expected, but I don't care to take it out for a test drive. You'd think I'd be jonesin to drive the thing since its t-charged again,. But the ITB tune intimidates me...it has a NA tune, and it will make boost if I try and drive it. MOF, it'll make 7psi.

I cannot afford to rattle this engine.

I rattled the old engine numerous times trying to get the tune sorted out...but at least the old intake, single tb, and SD tune made sense to me. ( versus this new crazy thingy I've created with the dozen or so red plastic lines goin everywhere.) You could look at the fuel map, and see where boost came on...you could do the same with the timing map..I could have even tried to let the thing auto-tune itself although I was advised against that by tuning obi wan keno-be.

It looks good though...( except that stinkin Orange 90....I hate that thing)

I have to put the blanket on the turbo as a safety measure for the plug wires and the AC lines since that hot pig is hanging around there now, but this thing is da done da.

Then there's still this......somewhere something is squeaking...I took the idler pulleys off and worked on those damn things thinking I fixed it..but as soon as I started it today...muthrfckr was squeakin...

Mike post me up a fresh copy of the tune you are running on, I will make my changes and add fuel in just the boost range with screenshots and explanations of what to do. We will pull stupid amounts of timing and run the car extra fat in boost and go from there. Sound good?

Why, of course it " sounds good".

As long as I don't hear the engine pinging...it'll sound like music..

Delta blues would be my choice......
