Eliminated the white, pointed the red strips up at each other.

I was thinking... Could you get a very thin piece of plexiglass, put the same mesh style decal over it as your front TS, and glue it behind the Cyclone plate? Then you could load it up with the LED stripes to shine bright, and not be able see through in daylight... Maybe use a silver mesh decal rather than black?

Good idea, but use some house window tint that reflects light then it is dark on the backside. That's the standard mode of operation for house type window tint. Turn the light on behind it and is shines through, but slightly dimmer.

Yeah, I could do that. And there certainly is very thin plexi out there. But that mesh crap cost 75.00 for the TS lenses, and I already got a stupid amount of money in an ornament as it is. It would certainly act to mask the led strips, but they are still spread out too much to have two different colors back there. So I'd have to go one or the other. I like the way the red looks better than the white, but I need the back up lights to pass the safety inspection.....

Seems I remember somebody here offering to sell me some more of that screen when I did the ts for self application. If I could do that myself and keep the cost down, I'd do that, and just stack the whites behind the letters, and point the Reds at each other from the top and be done.

* I predict that this will be one of the updates that I will get little input from......whenever I do something a little unorthodox, I always get that. This one should fall into that category.

So,.....Consider this for a moment.

You're building a car. The interior is completely custom. Unlike the car that you actually own, the one you're building in your head right now has absolutely no storage space.

No glove compartment.

No console cubby.

Not even a map pocket in the doors.

So where are you gonna put your registration, and proof of insurance? Where are you gonna put all of that loose change after a trip to the local McDonalds? A comb, pen, or pencil? A tire pressure gauge?
Your wallet if you don't want to sit on it for the next 300 miles? What are you gonna do with your damn Iphone for Christsakes?.....

What to do,........what to do?

*** Ok,...you can stop wondering. I've actually had that part planned for almost a year now.

What do the motorcycle guys do?.........

They have saddlebags.

Now, so do I.

When we went to Spain last year (When I still had money coming out of my butt) I was on a mission to find that solution. See,....... The average "Euroguy" is comfortable enough with his sexuality that the "man bag" is very commonly adopted and used over there. Since I was in fact "in Europe", I figured what better opportunity to find a pair of those man purses that I could use as a saddlebags for the monster.

It was no easy task,...I had to find the right one. Not too big, and not too small, it had to be made out of leather, and had to be dark brown. It took going into dozens of bag stores, in multiple cities before I found what I was looking for.
Good thing, because the wife was just about to brain me if I drug the search out one more day.

I bought two of these. They weren't cheap. 60.00 ea. for what will amount to be a place to keep my registration.

I tried to be a euroguy while I was there. I really did. I actually walked around with all my valuables jammed into my little man purse.:p I couldn't stop thinking how freakin' stupid it was to carry all of your junk in a foreign country, to include your money, identification, passport, and phone in one easy to grab little bag for some mugger to snatch off your shoulder?

Freakin' ludicrous.

That's why I had no problem cuttin' the strap off of those bags. The likelihood that they'd ever need to be removable so they could be carried similarly while I was at a cruise-in or show, was never gonna be even a consideration. ( I guess I' could alternately just tape a sign on my back that said KICK ME!)
That ain't gonna happen either.

So, another consideration also weighing in favor as to whether or not the bags needed to be permanently attached to the car.

And.................,

When things are permanently attached to this car,......... they become what?............

Didjya guess yet?o_O

Gila bags. Of course.:jester:

But we'll hold on the completed G-bags for a minute, we have other things to talk about.

My floating console has two cup holders. I bought those things off of Ebay, and they are spun aluminum. They're very shallow, and also Gigandor. They are just beggin' for a full cup of some sticky soft drink to tip over and spill onto my pretty camel colored carpet. What I needed was an "insert" to fill the over sized cupholder, so a drink will stay in it's intended place.

I needed a coozie.

Now I coulda just did that. I coulda went into "The Walmart" and bought some generic foam coozie for .99. Hell I could've splurged, and spent a whole 2 dollars and got one of those little zippered "bottle wetsuits" you typically see the seasoned BudLight drinkers using.

But Nooo!!!,.....I had to go and buy the MOST expensive coozie on the planet. All for the sole purpose of making a bigger hole less big.

Ever heard of these guys?

Yeti. The thing actually serves as an actual 8oz cup as well, and can be had with an optional lid, but for my purposes they'll remain snugly sitting in the big assed, too shallow drink holders that sit in my floating console. How much does a Yeti spun aluminum coozie cost you ask?........

Why ONLY 25.00 each. 50.00 dollars for the pair.

How can you argue with the fact that the things have 10 year warranties, are guarantee not to sweat,..and are heavy enough to actually serve as ballast to keep one of the drinks where it belongs, the next time I take the Monster X-crossing. I mean, who amongst you WOULDNT pay 25.00 for a metal cup?

But it's all good, they do what I want, and they look like this.

Whoops,...now you also know what the G-bags are gonna look like at the same time.

So you may as well look.

They're actually screwed to the tube.

In addition to adding another couple of coats of copper metallic paint (I ran out), What's left to do, is to deal with covering the 2.5" slot that had to be cut for the shifter to move through it's range of motion. I called the folks at Seals it, and asked them if they have a rectangular grommet that I could use as a boot to cover that slot. While they didn't, they did have an oval one that would work.
sit-gs101-nh-bl_xl.webp

Dude at Seals it says this thing is the size of an Iphone. He says I could punch two 1/8" holes 2.5" apart, centered in the grommet, and take a razor blade, and connect the dots. That way, the cut will not run, and it will act as a slit that the shifter handle could stick through. I think that it will fit the interior theme. But the thing is 60 bucks.

The rubber in those grommets is very thin, and very elastic. If I could find a piece of that stuff, I'd make a retangular frame out of 1/2" x 1/8" flat bar, and make it myself. I will probably do that over spending the money for that goofy grommet.

Also missing from the pics are the two rocker switches that I have to drill into the top mesh behind the shifter. Those two switches will serve to activate the OD, (4th gear) and the converter lock up.

A point I'll finish on. This 4R70W transmission has a fully manual valve body I have to shift every gear, every time. I also have to engage the 4th gear OD, and torque converter LU everytime I want that to happen. The down side to that being I cannot forget to unlock the converter, and disengage OD before downshifting at the risk of hurting the transmission. A process that I hope to not learn the hard way.

Orr you could use that darn MS you have and program in a solenoid that activates and deactivates at certain rpm set points.... like a sudden down shift from 4th to 3rd would raise the rpms by more than 500 rpm in less than 1 second.... let me see if I can work my ms magic in the software.

Or a micro switch on the console that only activates while in 4th gear....

Very nice thread. I enjoy reading it every time you post something new. Just an idea.... I ran a newer 90+ a4ld with overdrive in an 88 mustang. I ran the od to the egr solenoid wire like the older California emission mustangs. It worked well. Egr comes on under cruise above 45 mph. Use the switch to override OD instead of engage it. (Safe)... Gila Sport button ???

Yes, I know you have a super spectacular science project of a motor that only exists in "Gila World", but there has to be a speed triggered switch somewhere on the great interweb.

Torque converter lock up is pressure based in most transmissions....so....pressure based switch in a service port on that 4R70W.... A lot of transmissions have plugs that, when removed, let you check pressures through a pressure guage. It'll take homework but your a genius you can figure out another way other than rocker switches.

We all have opinions...they're like ***holio's....but I hate rocker switches....light up push buttons...that's a different story. Great build man.

Now, I'll stop drinkin' and thinkin' [emoji85]

That is way back in the recesses of my brain. I know that that ecu will accommodate the full electronic control of the transmission, but it was just too easy to go manual for now. Even with regard to partial control as a safeguard,....all reasons I'm glad I built that thing, and that that "option" is just waiting for me ( or you) to figure out.

That looks pretty cool. I would say it's unique....but what about your car isn't unique? The word unique probably isn't much of a compliment anymore to you at this point. [emoji6]

Well that might be the case for somebody else, but I'm a Labrador retriever reincarnate. As long as I get itched behind the ear, I'm not going anywhere.

There are in fact switches that trigger events based on speed. And pressure switches that can also be integrated into programming it's a little beyond me right now. Once running, I hope to become proficient like macgyver at programming, and understanding the capabilities of the MSII. So,it'll just be a matter of time.
Bravo Mike! The only man i know that can have a G-Bag without looking like a (wait for it...)

D-Bag.

Cool idea dude.
thanks man,...one more little chip outta the big assed rock.
Another good update man, I like the Gilla bags lol. Maybe @95BlueStallion still has that fancy 4R70W controller sitting on a shelf, would take a little worrie outta the X-Crossing lol
Maybe he does......hmmmm.

Ok, for the summary. No glove box......in comes Man Purse (Men Purses?) Euro guys do it.......so it must be OK? So is it OK if I wear my Speedo around the house? Wife says "Hell the F no".

And then I look at the pictures.............doggone it Mike, I had to justify it by saddle bags on Harley. Now it's manly and consistent with the macho atmosphere that "Gila" brings. Mike, you are a true salesmen, but I may still dawn the banana hammock on weekends (Euro Style).

I need a "brain wash" to get that image out of my head.

Mike, kudos. That is another great idea. I don't post much in your thread but am always reading it. Great job (not being a smart***) Those bags are going to be very handy and a cool subtle touch. Like many others built in(and some that aren't subtle lol).

Ok... I don't like the pouches. I keep waiting for a full motion .gif to appear showing someone taking their hairbrush out of it.

Maybe if they looked like saddle bags instead of a holder for tampons?

...and I can't believe you didn't include a glove box. o_O

The Yeti are a great idea! You'll need something cold to hold a cold beverage that will wash all the gay down. :D
