Is it next to impossible to find out what the sequence number is on a 20th anniversary Mustang?
The VIN number is 1FABP28M9EF181472.

There were 5261 produced and I am looking for the sequence number for this particular model.

The more I dive into this, the more it looks like this number refers to the order in which the vehicle was sold (or arrived at it's respective dealership)--not the order that it was manufactured.
It looks like this number was possibly assigned once the vehicle arrived at the dealership....

If you dont already know the number, you will not ever know it, if it was ever assigned one to begin with. Ford didn't assign the number so asking them, or Marti Auto Works, will get you nowhere. As a new owner of one of the cars, you were given a card to fill out and mail to a plaque engraving company. That company mailed you a numbered plaque. That company went out of business in the late 80s.

That would explain why there is no rhyme or reason for the way these numbers have been distributed. The highest I have seen so far is #4979.
If they were given out in order that would suggest that the majority of people contacted this company for a plaque.
You indicated the company went out of business in the 80's, do you remember the name of the company?
Also, are you aware of a way to determine what dealership a car was sold at? I understand this may be coded on the door sticker?
(Contacting the original owner may be my last chance to figure this out)
Thanks for helping to solve this mystery...

I think it is kind of strange to try and [create] a serialization where one does not exist.

Also: Since it is a GT-350, shouldn't the 'dealership' be a rental car company?

The name of the engraving company was "R.J. Roberts & Company".

The 'selling' dealer code is on all Standard, Deluxe, and Elite reports from Marti. The 'ordering' dealer code and selling dealer name is also on Deluxe and Elite reports. The ordering and selling dealer is not always the same. The dealer code and name is also on Eminger Invoices.
