Like the guys said, its 23 years old, and yes your T's will leak. But if you take care of it, it'll take care of you. That being said, your Honda is for what you want a DD for. 23 years isn't young, cuz thats when I got my first 88 LX, and I'm old. Its a great car, but not for you to rely on all the time anymore-it did its bid for king and country, they're toys now. Having found an original T-top 87, you have found sort of a rarity. The other guys can tell you what to look for in the way of problems with them, but as we've discussed a million times on here, the more stock your car is when you get it, the better off a starting point you'll have. Look for obvious signs of previous butchery under the hood and under your dash. Hood, doors, hatch should all line up even or its been smacked and fixed wrong-or worse, twisted from racing-a common problem T cars have. Look at the back tires, the strip in the center should have nice tread on it or they've been lit up by Ricky Rocket a hundred times. See if the exhaust is patchworked together, moves around or leaks. These are some basic things I look at when Fox(thats what it is, a Fox Mustang) hunting. It the best, cheapest time you'll have playing with cars, but badly addictive! Welcome!

New seals and your T's won't leak nearly as bad as we're telling you, you just want to be prepared. An old, relatively stock GT aughta do that 14.9 if-and here's the whole Fox thing wrapped up for you- you can get it launched right. They don't drive themselves like cars produced since then do. It does not want to hook up, and the more power you throw at it, the harder it is to drive. But ifn you practice, and practice some more, learn what your car does and likes, and learn each tweak you do effects to your car, you will be hugely rewarded. There ain't a feeling in the world like getting a proper 5.0 out of the gate right!

A CAI and exhaust Fox is a mid/low 14 on sloppy street tires, 13s on stickies and a good driver.

14.9 and its supercharged? Haha, damn, man!

BTW, my '86 has the original t-top seals and I literally have to put folded towels on the seats to avoid puddles when I wash it. I don't drive my car in the rain and I garage it year round, so I just have not taken the time to replace them. Expect to spend more than 200 bones to replace seals.

It was a garaged car from both owners and barely driven (weekend car). It has a slight oil leak, normal from what I hear (not even a quart after 3-4000 miles. Well, if its a good buy depends on the price, doesn't it? Barely driven means check all the rubber parts for dry rotting. Rear main is prolly your oil leak-but keep in mind 5.0's burned a little too, right from the day they were new. I don't know that I'd replace the Honda with it(especially just cuz of the color) but rather just add to your collection- and if you do it right, it'll definitely be mean!

I DD'd mine when it was bone stock, wasnt a big deal to drive it. But they're so slow, i had to start modding it. The more you mod the less you want to DD and sometimes it becomes less road friendly. Id say buy it, leave it stock, and DD it but its nearly impossible to keep a fox stock.
