Wondering what year left door will interchange with my 1989 hatch. At some time in the past it was bent way forward damaging the door and fender. I've heard there is some difference in the years on the Fox bodies that may not be an exact match. Also if I find a non-power door can my power parts be swapped over?

Should fit...to my knowledge the changes are more to do with the '86 and older cars vs. the '87+ cars. The guts can be changed but it's a hell of a task...you have to drill out rivets that hold everything together and swap the lock and window motors over and the harnesses. It should be easier to find a power door than manual though as there are more with power than without.

I practically scoured the Earth to find some rust free '85 doors for mine, but unfortunately they're power and i want manuals. I don't have any idea how to swap the guts but i'm gonna try and if i figure it out i'll put a post up on how it's done so you can see in case you need it. It might be a while though.

Swapping the guts is easy. Just be careful with the power window regulator arm when drilling out the rivets. It is spring loaded and will injure you if you are in the way. I know from experience!

Your best bet is to stick with an 87-93 door. 86's and older have different belt moldings, body side moldings, and window trim. The early 80's and older have the handle down low.

But...no matter what year you get the inner door parts will work.

swaping the guts out are a pain in the ass...i cut my hand so many damn times trying to get **** in and out of the door.

not meaning to hijack the thread from the OP but, I need new doors for my 82 Capri Rs T-Top car. I went to the local pick and pull and got a great looking pair from a 88 gt t-top mustang... I havent gotten to putting them on yet but will they still work? I know the molding is different but what else?

The side view and run channel are different (run channel, or dew wipe, is the rubber squeegie thing on the outside of the glass). You can get the right dew wipes from 5.0 Resto and you can use your original side mirrors. The problem is that when you take off the newer dew wipes there are a few holes (i think 4) in the top of the door that are going to show after you put the older style wipes on because the newer ones are much thicker/bigger. You'll need to weld those holes shut and smooth them over. Other than that and the side molding they're the same. There *might* be differences in the wiring harnesses for power locks/windows but i don't know for sure because i've never dealt with them.
