The Jets have improved this year most because of the oline, not Favre. Pennington has better stats right now on the Dolphins! However, the Jets always manage to screw up a good thing. This has been going on since about 1970 and I don't expect things to change for them.

Pats vs. Jets in the playoffs? I think Pats win and Favre throws 2-3 picks.

I'm glad somebody finally said that (that wasn't a Pats fan since it would just get dismissed if we said it).

I agree with the playoff prediction, Jets secondary is terrible and Favre makes too many stupid mistakes.

Revis is good, but he's not the entire secondary. And as a whole, their secondary is pathetic; it's about as bad as the Pats.

The coaching staff is what kept the patriots above .500 to this point and the veteran leadership on the team. That can only carry you so far and b/c of the injuries the talent they have to work with now will either keep them from making the playoffs or not lasting long if they get in.

Yes a win is a win and I was happy to see them win but then reality set in when I realized it was less and less likely that anything will come out of it. Id love to be completely wrong and have them go on and win the superbowl but that's not something i'm counting on

Its not like the Pats are playing with scrubs. You still have Moss, Welker, Light and a cast of others. There are healthy teams who don't have that kind of talent

I have to disagree, he is a slightly above average coach. He is 49-61 without Brady and 86-25 with Brady. The numbers are very telling.

He coached in Cleveland for four years, he isnt a miracle worker.

But seriously, Belichick is an awesome coach and them being 8-5 with a suspect D, major RB injuries, oh yeah and losing the one of the two best players in the league the first game proves that out.

If you dont think losing a QB has an impact on a team. Look at the Colts early this year when Manning wasnt right, or how well the Panthers did the last year or so when Delhomme was injured with his elbow stuff. Then look at both QB's and their teams now.

Few teams can recover from the loss of a starting QB. In order to do so, the backup must be a wily veteran or someone like Brady or Romo who has had time on the bench and was ready to go.

The Eagles actually pulled it off in 2006 when McNabb went down and the backup QB (Garcia) was very good. It's rare. If Eli goes down, the Giants will have to use David Carr.

That was in Cleveland; Cleveland was terrible then and is terrible now. They always will be. If he had a talented team and a great QB and still had that record, then yeah he'd be an "average" coach. Belichick is a great coach and it shows.

If Carson Palmer is such a great QB, why has Cincy sucked so bad even when he was there? Because they don't have the coaching to take advantage of having a QB.

+1.. Losing a QB and all those injuries would've doomed almost any other team. There are only a couple coaches in the league that could make it work as well; Dungy and Belichick, that's it imo.

Perhaps Coughlin too. He's been known to pull off some miracles.
Hixon (Burress's replacement), Ross and Jacobs are all beat up pretty bad. I wonder if the Giants can still beat the lowly Cows in Irvine? I think they may be able to pull it off. Looking forward to Sunday night!

True, true. Didn't mean to overlook Coughlin, after all he was the only one who could take down that Patriots team last year. Gotta give him a lot of credit for that crazy coaching job.

There are a couple of problems with your post. A good coach makes a terrible team a good one. You think an "average" coach doesn't lose a lot with a talented team and a great QB. That would be a bad coach. I said he is slightly above average, and he is. Ok, now since you discounted the Browns deal even though it is completely relevant, we can look at just the record with and witout Brady just with the Patriots. With Brady 88-25 (77.8%). Without Brady 13-17 (43.3%). Now what will your excuse be? If you were to take a bad coach and put them in charge of a Brady controlled Pats team they would be great. Does that make the coach good? Nope. Again, Belichick is SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE.

Look at the talent level (or lack thereof) when Belichick took over that team. He coached his ass off and got them to and won the SB in '01 with an average (if that) team. If it was just Brady, then why didn't they make the playoffs the next year? After all, he had a year under his belt and should've been even better than '01. The game plan he had for Brady in '01 seems to be highly similar to what it has been for Cassel; they've got very similar stats and Matt Cassel is nowhere NEAR Tom Brady's talent-level. Belichick knows how to coach and how to take a team that's hurt/full of injuries and still win.

Sorry that is just dumb. John Wooden couldnt take a bad basketball team and have them playing with UNC and Duke. You cant argue he is an average coach.

Even the good coaches have to have players to win. A good coach can maximize the talen they have to make the team better, that doesnt necessarily mean he can overcome a massive talent gap.

There is a difference between college basketball and PROFESSIONAL football. Every team has talent to work with, some more than others, but they all have it. They are all professionals. I never said BB was a bad coach, I didn't even say he was normal. I said he was above average, and far from great.

That "average" 2001 team had alot of good players on the roster.

Personally, I agree with Bluffing on this one. Belichick has done great with the Brady-led Patriots, but beyond that his career has been rather unimpressive.

Check my above post. Everyone saying how beat up and how the Pats have nothing to work with this year talentwise. Bitch Please! You still have Moss and Welker catching balls. You still have a good line! Defence beat up a bit? It happens.

You know when the Steelers won the SB everyone said Ben was a producy of a good team around him. Is that not pretty much the same arguement here? I mean when BB took over you had one of the best up and coming young teams led by Bill Parcells. I mean didn't the Pats loose a Sb to Green Bay not long before that?

BB is a very good coach. He has the rings to prove it. He took over a pretty good Cleveland team and it tanked. He took over a very good NE team and they got better. Personally, with him bailing on the team before the game was over in the SB this year, and him being told don't film teams and he still ok'd it to be done, I still think the guy is an ass.

But the numbers are kinda telling
