And what's wrong with the Broncos? Trade away Jay Cutler? For Cassel perhaps? Dumb, very dumb. I know that Cutler went to the Chiefs but just the thought of making Cutler tradeable seems absurd.

Honestly, no one outside of the organization seems to have a definite answer for what happened. The common theme among people in the know is that the Bucs contacted the Broncos about a possible 3 way trade that would have sent Cutler to the Bucs, Cassel to Denver and draft picks to New England. McDaniel, having worked with Cassel considered the deal but ultimately decided against it. Shortly there after, the Lions called about also doing a 3 way trade and were quickly told "no thanks."

Where it all seems to have gone wrong is that no one informed Jay that the talks had taken place. He was told by a reporter (probably Adam Schefter, who is very close to the team) and got upset because he is under the impression Denver initiated the talks.

McDaniels/Xander are young and new to the general manager and head coaching roles they have, and as such I think they simply botched the communication with Cutler and he's pissed. The local Denver news channel said Cutler was supposed to meet with the team tonight but cancelled. I'm sure once everything is hashed out things will be fine...at least I hope.

Yeah, way too many rules. :rlaugh:

Tell me about it! That was pretty simple agreement, but we all know he was just too scared to stick it out.

And besides, it's not like he has some elaborate signature anyway. A little text formatting is all.

The Broncos got an all-star in Brian Dawkins.

I really like Dawkins. He is getting up in years but can serve a John Lynch type role with us.

Wishful thinking I guess. I will take Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton, Brett Keisel any day.

I would kill to have Casey Hampton on the Broncos. That man is one of the best 3-4 defensive linemen in the game today.

Thats actually not true, there are various reports including Chris Mortensen saying the Broncos were the ones seeking a trade to get Cassel, not the other way around.

Then Cutler was pissed because the Broncos basically lied by telling him the other teams approached them which is NOT the case. It was on sportscenter this morning and even a quote by Cutler.

Pretty stupid move by a first year coach imo, especially considering his ties to Cassel. If you think Cassel is better dont lie to your current guy when you know he will find out the truth.

The Broncos forum I post on has a few writers in the Denver area who are close to the team and have confirmed that Mortensen is wrong. Mortensen is an idiot anyway and definetly not a reliable reporter.

The Broncos were the ones approached about the trade, just like I originally thought. Both Adam Schefter (who has very strong ties to the Broncos) and a few other of the local writers have spoken to members of the franchise and one of the writers spoke directly to McDaniels who said he decided against both trades after considering them.

Still a major communication **** up though. It'll take some time to work out.

If mcdaniels continues operating the way coaches from the parcells tree operate then he might have wanted to get rid of cutler and bring cassel in to stamp this team as his.. flush away the shannahan guys..

Belichick did this with terry glenn when he became head coach in NE. I find it odd he picked cutler but he may have his reasons that we dont know about.

All that I know is that Cutler had a quote on sportscenter and he believes what Mortensen said. So take that for what its worth...

I occasionally spend some time on a Colts forum and team forums arent exactly the best place to get unbiased info about that particular team.

Yeah you are not kidding...

All the people on the patriots forum thought the pats were going to get 2 first round picks for cassel :rlaugh:

I even fell for it a bit when some people around here said a late first and a third.. They got a early 2nd and some salary cap dump (vrabel)

Yes, it's possible.

Really? I have not heard that. So far the only ones I know he has talked are Lombardi and Schefter. Regardless, Cutler has not yet been in contact with the team and he's very upset. Meanwhile, Xanders, McDaniel and a few others have come out and said they are not looking to trade him.

Regarding Mortensen, he's pretty much a joke. He was parading around on ESPN saying that the Chiefs had finalized a deal with Mike Shanahan when it turns out the two had never even been in contact.

And that's just one example.

I agree with this entirely. You need to know who can seperate their feelings from facts. Luckily on the forum I frequent we have a few who are reliable like that and feed us good intel. :D

5.0 it's all over espn bro quoting cutler as saying he knows for a FACT that the broncos initiated the talks. also they are sayin that on monday cutler was still on the market.

Cutler hadn't even spoken to the team yet. Actually he still hasn't, but his agent, Bus Cook, did meet with the team earlier today. Unfortunately Jay (who is a bit of a hothead naturally) is taking this very personal and acting a little childish about it.

Every reliable in Denver though, is saying the other teams came to us.

They should have kept him over Chad Johnson, IMO.

Oh hell ya! Chad is good for maybe one awesome play here and there. TJ seems to pull it out whenever needed. But since Cincy locked in with Graham the kicker, they had no control over TJ as a free agent anymore.

Maybe Chris Henry will stay our of jail and be able to actually play this year. Give us a couple of pretty good receivers that way. I'm still gonna miss TJ though.

Yeah I read on the forum that the Colts were interested in everyone from TJ Housh, Haynesworth, and who ever else was available. Only a few seem to grasp the fact that the Colts dont have any cap room left to sign anyone of note.

Now I would love to have had TJ replace Marvin and lord knows we need some D line help to stop the run, but it will have to be through the draft as usual.
