I have the opportunity to buy a 91 Lincoln w/ the FI 302 and AOD (I believe). It has the disks all around. I can get it for $200. The real reason I'm interested, is the Disk brake rear for the conversion to my 9" already in my car. I know that I need the Brackets from Ultrastang, but his website says to 1990. This car has the ABS on it, I don't need to use the MC or the proportioner as I have a wilwood prop. valve and am going to use the 85 SVO MC.

Anybody know if the engine is anything worth while and will the brakes work???

TIA
Kevin

The motor should be the 5.0 HO. The top plate on the upper will tell you. If so, it's the same 5.0 H.O. that came in the Stangs, except possibly the alternator bracket. I bought an 88 Mark VII a couple years ago for the motor, it had a big asssed 130 amp alternator with an external regulator. This required a different bracket from the Stang. Not sure the rear discs will interchange, the 8.8 in it used different axles due to the ABS rings. No matter what, $200 is a steal for it.

It does say HO on it, he said it was a roller cam motor - stock. He said it ran good, uses some oil. It's got 151K miles on it. I was thinking about driving it for a while (till I get to needing the breaks if they will fit) to help with fuel costs. Tired of the $4.19 a gallon Diesel.

I'm not up much on these newer motors. Would it have the E7 heads on it? Should it have the AOD as well?

You consider a 22-year-old engine configuration a "newer motor"? Have you just woken up from a coma or something?

To answer your questions, yes, it's the same roller HO found in the '86-'95 models (save for some minor differences between years), yes, it will have the E7TE head castings and yes, it will have an AOD.

My bad, your right. I stopped paying attention to current engines when I was 2 y/o in 1973.lol My father had something to do with that. He doesn't even think there was an engine built after the 427 FE and the HiPo 289 was discontinued.lol

Thanks for the information guys. I think I will just have to go pick it up this week.

Still wondering about the brakes though.

All the Ford/Lincoln/Merc cars with the 5.0 from 87-on were roller cammed. The pickups went roller in 92. Before then from 87 until 92 they had a roller block with a flat tappet cam. 151K miles? Just getting broke in good.

Mustangs and Capri's have actually been roller since '85. But yes, the Lincoln Mark VII's didn't go roller until '87.

Actually the Lincoln Mark VII went roller in 86. Along with the rest of the big F/L/M cars.

My bad, you are correct. Although in the base Mark VII still got the old non-roller CFI set up that year, the LSC's did get the SEFI HO rollers.

91-92 MK VIIs had different rear brakes than the earlier ones. Smaller rotor. Smaller caliper. They're a lot like the SN95 Mustangs but with a vented rotor.

also you might want to check the size of the rotors on that 91 car, if they are 11" you should be able to use them. if they are the smaller 10.5 ones they won't work, another one of fords "better ideas" but they used up the existing stock of the bigger brakes before they started putting the smaller brakes on them

'91/'92 Mk VII rear rotor is ventilated but is 10½"diameter. The '84-'90 Mk VII/'84-'86 SVO/'82-'87 Continental rear rotor is ventilated and 11.25" diameter.

Yahoooooo

An update, I went and got the car yesterday and the Title says 1990 not 91 like I had thought. Looks like I found a car to drive for a while and when I tear it apart, all kinds of goodies, but especially those disk brakes.

Thanks for the input guys.
