1993 GT automatic changed to 5spd - computer question

Will the stock automatic computer properly control the engine for high performance use since it has been changed over to a 5spd - car runs good but I wonder if it is to blame for the car feeling sluggish compared to my other A9L 1993 GT setup. I have heard that the A9P automatic computer can only be used in an automatic car even AFTER the car has been changed to a 5 speed due to neutral safety switch issues so it has me wondering - would a custom chip solve performance issues if there are any or is the A9P computer just as fast as an A9L and I need to work on other things to get it to feel less sluggish. Also -- chip or not to chip - that is the question.

I have an auto computer and a T5 and did nothing to change it, and would not call my car sluggish by any means. I agree with Hissin, look elsewhere.

The A9P is actually more aggressive in spark than the A9l - 26* vs. 30.8* for the A9P at WOT max RPMs.

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

IF your car is an 86-88 stang, you'll have to use the test lamp or voltmeter method. There is no functional check engine light on the 86-88's except possibly the Cali Mass Air cars.

Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes.

30.8??? where did you find this info , my A9L throws about 21-22 degrees advance and my buddies A9P does throw more degrees timing in it but its about 25-26 degrees.....I have checked them both myself with a good timing light .....

A computer for an AOD used with a T5 transmission should have no issues. However, a computer for a T5 will not work properly with an AOD. Good luck!

Chalk up another AOD-to-T5 conversion with an AOD computer, here. No issues with mine (at least no computer-related issues), and it doesn't feel the least bit slow ... actually faster than my prior stock-equipped T-5 notch ... but probably more due to having 4.10's and lots of weight reduction versus 3.08's and all the trimmings.

I'd be looking for vacuum leaks or something amiss in the ignition or fuel systems, instead, as a cause of the perceived slowness.

you may have already had an issue but it wasn't as obvious with the aod......

Thanks guys - I have no computer codes showing - car is a fresh rebuild and I was just thinking that the computer could be one of the concerns - car is a dog... Still working many angles on this one - got it moving a bit better yesterday but unable to work on it since then.
