Hello all, I'm new here. I've been in possession of a very peculiar mustang recently and was wondering what model it might be or if it's some type of rare mustang? Only one original owner, and old guy bought it during a mid life crisis and not much has been done to it, but it has Flowmaster Super 40's, BBK off road H pipe, 3.73 gear and a CAI, the transmission was also rebuilt. It's a beautiful car, it's in emaculant condition. It has a red velvet interior, which leads me to believe it might be a rare model? It is a true 5.0, made in December of 94. I also have something wrong with it though, if I'm at a stop light or I'm driving and stop all the way and then accelerate again, it shifts into second and gets up to about 3,000-4,000rpm and won't shift into third, and then it'll make a chirping sound and seems to skip third gear and go right into OD, if I take the overdrive off it'll do the same thing except it won't shift into third, and when it does, it the RPMS Rev up pretty quick to about 4,000rpm and sometimes even 5,000. but the car has no power or acceleration when it does this, and it does it kind of quick, but has been going on for a while now and happens everytime I drive it now. What's weird is I have no check engine lights on or anything and when plugged up to a computer, it doesn't send a code or show anything wrong with it. I've tried doing some research but have gotten nowhere so I'm trying to get some advice from other mustang owners.

Probably just a GT with an SVT badge and dyed interior. Write down your vin and google a vin decoder. You should be able to find all you need to know.

A red interior was available on the 1994-1995 models. While the red interior is somewhat rare (even more so being cloth), Ford didn't put the SVT badge on the (Cobra) Mustangs until 1995. They never made an SVT GT. Other than that, it looks to have been fairly well taken care of as you say. Most of the red interior cars I've seen are convertibles.

Try replacing the Manual Lever Position Switch MLPS,sometimes called Range Switch or Neutral safety switch..
For your shifting problems, search this site for it-lots of details and shift problems similar to yours

Red interior was available, and rare, but not desirable so no real premium added.

The badge is in the correct spot, if it was a cobra. I wonder if the trunk lid was swapped out at some point with one that happened to be from a cobra. Spoiler looks like the GT version though

Only v6/gt trunk lid had the third center mount brake light.

Cobra third center mount brake light is on the spoiler, no light on the actual lid.

So then lets add this up.

Basically a stock 94 GT with a red cloth interior, and a 3m stuck on SVT badge, or a complete trunk swap. Originally purchased by an "old guy" trying to fight off a "mid-life crisis."

(That poor old guy,....who was he trying to kid?)

Actually it looks like it's true for 94-95. In 1996, the brake light went back to the trunk lid for the Cobra.

So, it still could be a trunk swap

Does this car hav fog lamps? Could be a 248A car, although I don't know if those came automatic

There's usually a VIN sticker on the trunk lid near where it meets the rear-most part of the trunk weatherstrip. That would rule out a trunk swap.

Yeah, i was only speaking of 94-95 gt/v6/cobra models.

Like 02 281 GT said, check out the VIN sticker.
D code = Cobra
T = GT

If the mlps doesn't solve it, it check the 2-3 accumulator next. Mlps is very common and much easier to fix though.

Okay guys, so I've done some research on the Vin numbers and asked the previous owner and I've found out that mustang is in fact a custom ordered SVT, the original owner had it ordered from a dealership back in October of 94, and was finished in December of 94. The old guy wanted an auto trans, which explains why it has one. And he wanted the red interior, cloth and not leather. It's not a Cobra per say, but it is an SVT mustang. As for the shifting problem, I'm still having the problem, but I have the manual for the car and am going to try replacing the TRS or MLPS and if that doesn't work, then I will check the accumulator. Here's a link to a video on my YouTube channel of my car having the problem View: https://youtu.be/zMiuvXxTxZU

I think Ford would say that basically if it's not a Cobra, it's not an svt vehicle. If it is, they should be able to provide a certificate of authenticity like the cobras or lightnings. I'd love to see them document it.

I've never seen a gt be anything other than a badge job. Maybe the dealer put a badge on and told him it was a "special edition" to make a sale?

And the video looks like an mlps issue to me. Very common back then.

The only SVT part on the car is the badge. Other than that it's a regular GT.

Looks like the dealership put on over the previous owner and stuck an SVT badge on a GT mustang to appease him.

SVT cars are serialized with paperwork. If you don't have that, you just have a story

The only SVT built mustang in 1994 was the Cobra. There was no such model as an SVT GT.

GT intake, GT heads, GT front facia, GT brakes....

There is no way SVT would put their brand on any car that hasn't got at least a few improvements over a run of the mill GT.

This is just a plain old auto GT, with an SVT decal on the trunk lid.

Also, not sure if this has been stated yet or not but, in 1994 the svt Cobra did not even have an svt badge. 95 got the svt badge on the trunk lid. So that svt badge was most definitely stuck on there by someone.
