Hey, I might be making this decision soon if I'm able to sell my 99 GT, the saleen is a non supercharged version and is also more expensive, anyone know what would be the best buy? I understand the Cobra makes more HP, so what exactly makes the saleen that much more expensive, other than the obvious better looks.

If you want more speed for less money, go with the Cobra. Saleens are masked up GTs unless they are the supercharged versions. You are paying for the name, suspension, rims, and very few HP over a GT. Not worth it at all, unless you like all show and no go.

Couldn't have said it any better. The following article covers that very topic:

Get the Cobra. It's a far better car. Actually, there is no comparison. You can make any GT into a Saleen look-a-like. The Cobra is a dime a dozen. (I think it's even more rare.)

Go with the snake. I test drove a 2000 Saleen and I have a '99 cobra and the Saleen felt super slow. Body kits are for ricers anyway, which is really all you get with the N/A Saleen along with a stiffer suspension.

Get the Cobra

I had a 1999 GT with all the mods making 401hp 402TQ at the wheels. The local dyno shop had many Saleen owners and their #'s posted. Most from Saleen come with about 335 to 340 at the wheels with the supercharger. I disagree with some, I do think they (Saleens) are good looking, it's just NO comparison to an 03/04 Cobra. I now have an 03 Cobra and cannot beleive what a POS my GT was. I payed $25,000 for it new in 99 put $25,000 more into it and got my ass kicked by an 03 Cobra with a $700 upgrade (pulley and chip).

Sorry to ramble. Bottom line, SVT screwed all tuners with the Cobra, it is the pinacle of what you could due with that chassis and no Saleen or Roush or Hyland or Steeda will compare.

i was in the same boat you are now, except my decision was between a 01 cobra vert and a 99 speedster. in the end i got the cobra, and am i glad i did, for the performance you have to go with the cobra. Of course the saleen will get you more looks, but just do that to the cobra and you get the performance and the looks, which is what i'll do to mine.

Get the Cobra, the 4V responds better to mods then the 2V does.

If I could afford it, i would go 99-04 Cobra hands down...add the saleen wheels if that is all that determines the decision.

This is why i will be going after a 97-98 Cobra, they are becoming much cheaper and still have high potential with the 4V engine. Though it is no comparison to the 03.
