I have a 5.0 Mustang Conv without any major mods, but one my first time trial I had a 10.86 1/8th of a mile. This truck that raced against me ran a 10.37, so needless to say I was very mad. The next time I ran it in 1st gear then shifted it up to D. This time I ran a 9.89. Does anyone know what I would run in the 1/4 with a 9.89 1/8th? I would like do do a couple more mods but it is a daily driver so I want to keep it sensible. I was thinking about a 55 shot Zex kit. Would a 55 shot still hurt my engine? What are some other things I could try?

The most commonly acceptable conversion is to multiply your eigth mile time by 1.55, so a 9.89 would be a 15.33. Typically my cars run somewhat slower in the quarter than that predicts.

Your engine will take up to a 100 or 125 shot, but the trans may not like it for extended episodes.

That formula works if your car has a flat consistant powerband but it does not take trap speeds, 60fts, and traction in account, but it is a good general idea, and that sounds about right.

I don't think a 55 shot would even be worth it, at least go with a 125, alot of people spray 150-200 shots on stock motors with no problems.
