My buddy claims he bolted up a 2.3 t-5 tranny to his v-8. Only difference was gearing and not as strong as the V-8 version. Is this true? How hard is it?
I have heard of doing it before and I'm sure it is just about the same as putting in a regular tranny, but WHY? It will not hold up with the torque of the V-8.

yes it'll bolt up with only a pilot bearing change.the 4-banger t-5 can live just as long as a regular t-5.i ran one for almost 2 years before i changed to a t-5z.i actually liked the 4-banger gear ratio better than the high geared t-5z.

No doubt they are weaker... I bought a new-rebuilt 4 cylinder tranny (was told it was a V8 trans, but knew it wasn't once I saw the input shaft).. but it was a good buy so I got it. Here's the kicker... It lasted longer then ANY (bar none) V8 T-5 I ever had in my 83. But when it broke.. baby did it break. Grenaded the input shaft gear. Quite fun though! I bought a 3550 to replace my T-5's.... I finally learned after my 6th (yes, SIX) T-5.
