Hey my buddy has a 2.3 turbo engine in his garage and we thought it would be cool to put on his ranger. Is this possible. Just the turbo and using his 2.3 thats in the ranger now
Possible, Yes. A good idea... no. Sure, you might get away with it for a little while, but you'll be pushing those tiny stock injectors hard as they'll run at the lowest boost possible, and if it ever pings, you'll be replacing the engine.
The much better idea is to run the whole turbo engine in the ranger. Also run the associated injectors, air meter, and computer. There's all kinds of information out there on this. Espeically on www.turboford.net. Do some searching on there and you'll learn everything you need to know.
Trust me. I've done it both ways. Use the turbo engine, and get an extra base 50+hp, without any changes, and you know it will be far more reliable.
There are many other reasons not to do it, too. The pistons in a stock 2.3 Ranger will probably not hold up to anything past 5 psi. You'll have to rig something up for the oiling. Just too many things to do / change. I'd just do the complete 2.3T swap ..... or do like I did .... 5.0 swap.
Best wishes with your swap I agree with whole swap. I done a yahoo search 2.3 turbo ranger. I got www.rangerstation.com/tech_library.html. I lot of information for ranger appliacation. Good Luck
