2.3L EFI Can i use a Mechanical Fuel Pump?

I have a 2.3L EFI engine out of a mustang, its NOT the DP (8 spark plug) head..

Its the 2.3L w/ distributor out of a 1990 mustang.

On the side of the block there is a plate blocking off where the mechanical fuel pump bolts on, like in the 80's carb'ed 2.3ls, my question is, Can i use a mechanical fuel pump on this block? Im guessing since its blocked off from factory that all the insides are in there that makes the fuel pump work.. of course this 2.3l will go carb'ed, thats why i want to use the mechanical fuel pump

Sure, you can put it on there as long as you don't try running fuel injection on it...the auxiliary shaft should still have the fuel pump eccentric on it.

Well i thought you guys might be interested in this, the auxillary shaft in my 2.3L engine that came out of a 1990 mustang did NOT have the eccentric on it for a mechanical fuel pump, but luckily i had another old burnout 2.3L out of a 1986 mustang that had the correct fuel pump auxillary shaft...

Ahh, I keep forgetting that the later model engines don't have the eccentric. I keep thinking of my '84 Turbo engine which did have it in there (since they were still making carbed 2.3's at the time)
