2.5 midpipe to 2.25 back pipes

Would there be a problem with this? I am wanting to go stock mufflers tomorrow with a catted x pipe. It is from Mustang Tuning.

Should this be an easy hookup, or will there be conversion problems? I know the stock piping is 2.25". Isn't the X pipe 2.5"? A shop is doing it for me, and they didn't mention anything for me to look out for in that regard.

Worst case scenario, I guess I'd have to throw on some stainless steel flowmasters. Darn! (Please, responses to my question - don't just tell me to get the flowmasters anyway! )

The mufflers themselves require a 2.25" pipe to work, right?

I hope they are good at fabricating something! They'll probably really try to throw me some Flows. My shop is big into them. The guy who owns it just loves their sound. I just don't want them because I like the raspy euro sound more than the american rumble - sometimes. My MACs are very rumble-oriented.

He said my MAC sounds pretty good too though. He hadn't heard one before. Most people around here just grab Flows and go. Most people around here don't even mod their car, actually - unless it's a dumb bumble bee civic buzzing around.

Hopefully they'll be able to rig it up. The exhaust guy is really good, so I'm not too worried about it. He did an excellent job with the MAC and the Magnaflows I had before.

BTW, is it hard to do what I'm asking? (this conversion)

What about if I have just the stock mufflers, not the whole catback?

Well, I don't exactly have my stock catback anymore. I am only going to be able to get a hold of the mufflers with dumps as far as I know.

Will this make the installation a lot more difficult for the shop?

This may be a stupid question, but what are dumps, and what purpose do they serve?

Catted X pipe INSTALLED!! Great pipe!

Hello guys! I finally got my catted X on there. Man, it makes the car sound GREAT! I was thinking about putting the stock mufflers on with the catted X, but I have decided just to leave the MAC catback on. It sounded so good I couldn't take it off! I've been driving around all morning with the windows down just listening to the sound. It's so mean! If I can, I'll get some exhaust clips and post them. Trying to figure out the best way to record the sound....

I was hoping this would fix that bad rattle I have, but of course it didn't. I care though. I'm going to either check into a welding method that rids the car of drone on the inside, or dynomat, either way. The car sounds too good on the outside to change it!

The only thing I could say that would compare to how it sounds now is if it had Magnaflow mufflers. They had a great sound to them when I had them on, and if I could do it over again, I would have left them on and bolted this mustang tuning catted X right up to that. It would have been killer - but this is killer too! It just depends on which sound you like best really: chambered or straight-through! For a chambered hookup, this sounds GREAT!
