Hey All,
How do you find out what your RPM limit is going to be when planing to build an engine? I believe that the reason for having an RPM limit is to prevent follower jump. So is it the Cam, spring, both or more than just that?

Second question: How can I find out what the rev limit of my engine should be. Note that I do not know what is in the engine. It was rebuilt prior to me obtaining it. I do know that it is not stock and at a minimum has a different cam.

the cam definetly has a roll in what the rpms will reach, but it also depends on how well the intake and heads flow. if there isnt enough air to rev that high, then engine simply wont do it.

Thanks. But I might be asking the wrong question. When driving and using the engine to it's fullest potential (REV'd to the max). Do I have to worry about anything other than premature ware.

as said, it depends upon what you have. since you dont know, i would not go over stock. some times or dyno runs will tell you.

most stockish stuff falls on its face shy of the fuel cut off (6250). no reason to run it that high, unless it is pulling hard (and a dyno has confirmed this). and with a dyno, you will know a lot more about what is goin on. just my lame thoughts.
