2 Speeding Tickets in 1 Day!!

Man, you guys are lucky to have speed limits set that high (65-75)

Here in HI, the maximum speed limit is 55. At least 5 over is a instant ticket.

I always travel at least 60, which is damn slow. Occasionally, i blast to 85-90 on the way home from work late at night. no cops.

Our freeways in the mainland would'nt even be considered hoghways. Overall, the island is only 90 miles around. takes about 2 hours covering the island.

Thanks for the Warning!

Here in Scottsdale AZ they are trying to put photo radar on the 101 freeway, so the instant you go 11 mph over you get a ticket mailed to you 2 weeks later.

The crazy thing is that the speed limit is 65 mph but for 5-6 hours a day traffic typcally goes only about 15-20 due to the amount of people trying to use it.

In the next few months; I'm gonna be running up to the Scottsdale JC clubhouse a couple-three times (Silver Spur and Parada del Sol Rodeo stuff). Since I used to make that run many times a few years ago as an AZJC officer, I learned to actively avoid rush hour traffic on those runs up 101 to Jackrabbit (I like to come up through Maricopa). Therefore, I've been known to be bangin' down that road at somewhere around Platonic Solid speeds (like a lot of other people do :p ).
Now I know not to do that. Thank you! :D

So that's like 50 MPH IN THE BANK for when you can speed!:nice:

I have heard a lot of cop stories related to speeding tickets over the years, and many times they are borderline undeserved. This doesn't appear to be one of those times...LOL!

Seriously, if you had been doing 90 on a regular basis on that route, you had to know your ticket would get punched sooner or later.

I did something stupid, scilenced one of the radar warning bands on the radar detector, and my fiance got busted for 78 in a 70. We were on our way back to Lubbock from Dallas on 114 when she got popped. We were talking about stuff, neither of us paying attention to the cars coming down the road, and then there was a DPS car coming right around this corner. I said somthing then she saw him and slowed down, but it was to late. I was hoping that he wasn't clocking since the detector wasn't going off, but nope it was. It was just scilenced on that band. Stupid me cost her 100 bucks.

Something interesting is that the list of fine was like...
1-10 mph over speed limit 135.00
11-25 mph over speed limit 185.00
26 up over speedlimit 210.00

That is pretty wild. So even doing my safe 73 mph when I suspect there might be a cop around would net me a fine which would be the same as doing 80. Interesting. Damn they need to make getting a ticket take like an hour and a massive hassle for the DPS officers so that they would be encouraged to give fewer of them. I know the county and state are trying to generate funds but gee wiz. I like to drive as fast as I feel like driving. What about my rights?!?

I'm kidding, okay mostly kidding.

Being "the Dad", I asked her just how the He(ck) fast she was driving.

"Well, Dad, it's been raining pretty hard, so I slowed down to 75-80 for the last bit."

Take some comfort in knowing that truck will only do 98 or 99 MPH. It hits the governor like a ton of bricks but it is governed none the less.

your 73 mph comfort zone is actually generally ok. USUALLY, (not all the time) the officer will give you 5 mph for speedomoter error. differences in tire size can can cause errors and the factory is not known for exact calibration of speedo's, that's whay police cars have to have certified speedo's. for instance my jeep is 4 mph faster straight from the factory and i have verified this by using the different radar trailers the city sets up all over town. for instance when i drive around town my speedo says i'm doing 45 mph when i am actually doing 41, i use this to my advantage and trick myself into thinking i'm going my 5 mph over when in reality i'm doing the actual posted limit.

if you do get pulled over and the officer asks if you know how fast you were going just say you had the cruise set at 70. sometimes there is even more of a margin for error if the cruise is set, they will sometimes be a little slower or a little faster depending on conditions, a slight downhill grade could allow it to go a little faster as will a slight uphill grade. the downhill because the cruise control does not brake the vehicle and the uphill because the cruise control will try to keep the car going if the engine is lugging it will kick into passing gear sometimes causing the car to go faster than the desired limit, albeit not by much and not for long.

so like i said the officer will generally give you the benefit of the doubt and let you have the 5 mph for speedo error, but if he does pull you over be cool and don't be an ass and he will generally let you go with a warning. he may actually be picking you at random, even though you are speeding, just to have proof that he's been working and not sitting on the side of the road sleeping or something. even a warning ticket will show he has been actually working. so just be cool and remember he is just doing his job and doesn't really want to write you a ticket he just needs to prove he was doing his job. you can usually tell as soon he comes to the window if he is going to write you a ticket or not so being even nicer will go along away.

this is my proven strategy for highway driving, i always take the back roads to make the quickest route and usually the cops out there are bored to tears since most traffic is on the interstate, and i also know that when i see one go by and wait about a minute i can kick it up a good bit for a while as well.

Actually he was the second officer we passed on the road in about a 15 mile span. We thought we were safe. We were wrong.

Ha, that sounds like something I've heard before from a horror flick or maybe a presidential speech.

ive had some "bad luck" of my own

yeah that sucks man. ive had my due of run-ins with the great police force in florida. i got 3 tickets in 6 weeks totalling over $1000 and the horrible part of it is they were all within a mile of one another. Also 2 of the tickets were completely bogus, in that i was pulled over for speeding in a school zone when the zone wasnt active and i proved it in court. the :taco: cops didnt even show up cuz they knew they were in the wrong. it was obviously profiling and i have lost all respect for police and as far as im concerned they are completely worthless. sorry to vent but i deemed it necessary.
