Just now learning about the carbon fiber(?) intake. Had coolant in the plug wells when replaceing 8 plugs with 135K on them. Now I see a leak below the therm cover, in the plastic...***is there a fix, without replacement?*** . Also washed (flooded with water) the motor to rinse the plug wells out, now have a miss...imagine that, going to pull the boots and rinse / blow out the wells, maybe some WD40 to displace the water that some dumb ass (me) saturated them with.

Replacement of the manifold with the upgraded (aluminum crossover) is the only fix.

Thanks for the response. I saw another brand at a similar price, and some comments on that brand...any thoughts? It was "Dunbar" or "Dumont" or something like that?

Dorman. Do your self a favor either get the Ford Racing or an Aftermarket metal. Had the Dorman and it started to leak by the rubber rings months after purchace, plus the rings cost roughly have of the Lower Intake.

If you go metal and want a simple bolt-on then go with Performanc Products. Other ones require modification of the EGR valve and extending the Idle Air Control valve. A headache if you ask me.

Soooooooo, the Ford Racing is the best bang for the buck. But plastic don't sit well with me, one man's opinion.

Thanks, looks like the best deal without going outrageous after market...I'm not looking to make a quarter miler! As for the plastic, I agree, but it did last 134K! Now to find someone with the patience to replace it...may be too big a job for me.

Plastic is fine as long as you're not using nitrous. The material doesn't deal well with nitrous backfires in the manifold but it's absolutely fine for normally aspirated or even moderate boost from a blower.

mine leaked really bad on my 98 too so I replaced it with the ford. The all plastic ones were recalled and replaced with the ones with the aluminum crossover. Ford told me they no longer honor the recall so I had to buy it. The kit the dealership gave me was for a crown vic and I had to get the alternator bracket from a thunderbird in a junkyard. I also read somewhere that the dormans are complete junk and somehow rob you of power.

I thought I'd be the last owner to not have the dreaded intake manifold crack/leak. No such luck (120K on a '99 GT). I went ahead and ordered a Dorman replacement (with the aluminum crossover). Not a difficult job, but very fiddly and annoying. I also missed the "window of opportunity" for a free fix. Good luck, in any case.

Swapping out the intake isn't that difficult if you are at least somewhat comfortable with wrenching on your car. I did mine, and I am by no means a mechanic. You'll need to learn how to remove fuel lines, but that just requires buying the right tools to release the fittings. I took pictures of the engine before the install from different angles so I would remember how it all went back together. Just take your time with it and you should be fine.

One thing you should do is have the Injectors serviced while you are doing the intake. I just read over on another thread about getting them professionally cleaned and new o-rings installed by InjectorRX in Houston, Tx. It was TripleBlk's thread about his Dorman PI Intake: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-for...placement-pi-intake-manifold-comments.855551/ I can't remember what I paid for the o-rings, but I think it was like $4-5 per injector, and from what I read, InjectorRX charges $18 per injector to install new o-rings, clean them up properly and flow test them. If the Intake doesn't come with a thermostat, and you can't remember when you changed it last, I'd put a new one in just to be on the safe side.
