2001 Cobra or Mach1? Which is overall the better buy?

Hey guys, I've noticed a lot of people suggesting that an 01 Mach 1 is a better buy than an 01 Cobra (assuming both are being sold for around the same price) and also that the Mach 1 will beat the cobra every time. Stock vs Stock, which is the better buy and which is faster?

WELL I DONT THINK THE MACH IS BETTER AT ALL BUT EVERYONE IS DIFFERANT BUT AS FAR AS THE MACH BEING FASTER THATS NOT TRUE MY BUDDY HAS ONE HIS HAS 305 HORSEPOWER WHERE MINE HAS 320 BUT ITS A CLOSE RACE IN A 1/4 BUT HE CANT BEAT ME.

Stock vs. Stock the Cobra is going to win most of the time, assuming equal drivers. If you are only concerned about drag racing the Mach has better potential because of it's solid rear axle. If you want a car that's going to be able to handle the twisties, then go for the Cobra.

mach 1 is going to win, not the cobra.
solid axle with 3.55 gears and underrated hp and tq.

cobra has IRS (wheel hop), only 320hp, and 3.27 gear.

equal drivers ---> Mach 1 > Cobra

I just think the Cobra has a nicer interior and it IS a Cobra, although the Mach 1 does have the same engine + shaker intake but not hand built. 99/01 Cobra hoods look like V6 Mustangs but other than that they look sick. COBRA on the bumper makes the car too. I'd get the Mach 1 over it though because it's newer/faster.

The Cobra is Great and the Mach 1 is great. Two different styles, choose what you like. Opinions will vary.

only 320 hp since were so slow maybe the mach 1 can hang with the 03/04 cobras.

they can actually... especially a mach with gears will give an 03/04 cobra run for their money. the cobra would outrun it after 3rd gear but with a misshift or not so good driver who gets a bad launch will see mach tail lights.
trust me i was tryin to decide between 01 cobra or 03 mach 1 a couple years ago and ended up with a 98.

Yea I've heard a lot of talk about wheel hop with the IRS. I've driven several 01 Cobras but its always been a test drive setting, so I've never been able to launch. So whats the deal, is it really that tricky with IRS?

i was tryin to decide between 01 cobra or 03 mach 1 a couple years ago and ended up with a 98

kinda crazy huh.. the 03 cobra totally messed with my brain. if i couldnt have it, i didnt wanna go and buy a newer mustang cuz i'd just be pissed i dont have the 03. 01's were still in the mid 20k's and Mach 1's were the same price. randomly i found a 98 and i was offered $15500 for trade in of the wrx (which trade in value was more like 12500-13000). the 98 only had 37000 miles on it too. I was only payin 320 a month for it too. so i figure i do my gears and bolt ons i'd be happy. nope. if someone wants to buy it, i'll sell it, if not i'll prob have it another year and wait for 03's prices to come down.

I read a MMFF article awhile back. Mach vs. '01 Cobra vs. '01 Bullitt. The Mach finished 1st, the Bullitt 2nd, and the '01 Cobra 3rd. Can't remember what the Mach ran, but the Bullitt was like 13.65, and the Cobra was like 13.75. Yes, I know, just a magazine article, but just wanted to get a cheap shot in there.

01 black on black cobra vert 38700 miles.. they want 22900 i think i got them to 22k even. 9k trade in on my car.

what do i doooooo??? they're saying they can't go lower on the price.... well every dealer says that now. wtf. they tell you well "Kelly blue book is just a book.."

yeah just a book that eveyone goes by. the mach 1 was a def rip tho cuz thats how much they are brand new.... i dunno what to do. i gotta let em know tomorrow. do i stay firm and tell them 20-21k?

If I was you, I'd stay far away from the car dealers. Find a private owner to buy from. The prices will be better or better than what your dealers sell them for. You'll be able to haggle with a person over a car dealer. Ask people who paid $30,000-$35,000 for their '03 Mach when they first came out, they'd only wish they could have bought an '03 Mach for $24,000. I originally ordered a '03 DSG Mach in Aug. '02 for $29,900. Sticker price. The only other one they were selling at that dealership, they raised $5,000 over sticker. This was back when the Mach was suppose to be a 1 year run only. I did'nt buy it. I moved out of state and could'nt swing the payments at the time.
